Summary of Job Duties:
The program associate at the Department of Poultry Science in the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will serve as the lead scientist to pursue research in the field of gastrointestinal host-microbe interaction with a focus on revealing virulence factors of Campylobacter jejuni and Clostridium perfringens identifying host pathogenesis and developing interventions. The primary duties of the program associate will be to conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments as well as managing laboratory and training students. The work will include but is not limited to: In vitro work includes molecular biology and microbiology experiments such as DNA cloning transformation gene knockout techniques in bacteria and animal cells transduction DNA and RNA extractions RT-PCR Western Blot ELISA metabolomics and bacterial culturing; In vivo works includes chicken and mouse enteric infection experiments such as chicken necrotic enteritis mouse Clostridium perfringens infection and chicken and mouse Campylobacter jejuni infection. Responsibilities and duties will also include experimental designing and conduction data collection interpretation and management and presentations at scientific meetings and manuscript writing.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications:
- BS degree in the field of poultry science molecular biology microbiology or closely related field plus three years of related experience OR an MS degree in the field of poultry science molecular biology microbiology or closely related field.
- Will demonstrate expertise in molecular biology and poultry science with proficiency in conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments.
- Experience in leading and training graduate students or research assistants.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Will have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Will work cooperatively with other members of the laboratory.
