The Service & Team:

The SEND Quality Standards team is a new team in the SEND and Inclusion service. Our focus will be to work collaboratively to drive up educational standards for children in Cornwall with SEND. You will work as part of a wider dynamic team of professionals with children at the heart of what we all do. We value on-going continued professional development both locally and nationally.

The Role:

This is a key advisory role within the local area SEND system working directly with schools settings and community providers to ensure high-quality inclusive practice and to champion the aspirations of children and young people aged 025. The post holder will undertake quality assurance monitoring contribute to workforce development and provide high-quality advice to drive improvement across Cornwall.

Cornwall Council is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). As part of our SEND & Inclusion service we are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate SEND Quality Standards Advisor to support the continuous improvement of specialist provisions and community-based alternative provision across the county.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake in-depth quality assurance monitoring visits to specialist and alternative provisions providing professional support and challenge.
  • Provide written and verbal advice that is high quality accessible and includes SMART outcomes.
  • Support inclusive practice development working with schools and settings to promote early intervention resilience and aspiration.
  • Analyse provision quality in conjunction with financial intelligence
  • To work closely with the Financial Review Officer to ensure best use of High Needs funding.
  • Champion the voice and experience of children and young people in all quality assurance and advisory work.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals including those from education health social care and third sector organisations.

This is a public/customer-facing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

Working Pattern:

37hr per week (term time only)

What youll need to succeed:

Were seeking a confident and reflective practitioner who can build strong relationships and offer constructive challenge. You will have a deep understanding of SEND systems and a track record of improving provision for children and young people with SEND.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with minimum of two years of teaching experience
  • NASENCO qualification or equivalent experience
  • Recent relevant experience monitoring SEND provision in education settings
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and inclusive practice
  • Excellent communication skills verbal written and in delivering training
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of professional credibility with the ability to challenge practice constructively
