Job Description

Department Overview

The Center for Nursing Excellence & Innovation (CNEI) aims to support the development and sustainability of an optimal work and practice environment so that front-line staff and front-line leaders can thrive and achieve excellence in patient care outcomes. The CNEI structural pillars include clinical nursing practice education & competency informatics & technology nursing research & evidence-based practice professional development professional practice foundation plus model and quality & safety for a high-reliability organization.

CNEI provides centralized services to standardize the practice environment across the enterprise while cascading services locally based to address specific practice environment needs for adult inpatient & emergency services ambulatory care management mission control perioperative procedural & multi-specialty womens & childrens and pediatrics care areas.

Function/Duties of Position

The Nursing Practice Specialist (NPS) supports the organizations workplace violence prevention efforts by serving as a clinical leader and subject matter expert in promoting a safe and respectful care environment. In partnership with the Workplace Violence Team the NPS integrates evidence-based strategies into nursing practice to prevent identify and respond to incidents of workplace violence.

Responsibilities include contributing to policy development supporting incident reporting and debriefing processes leading nursing-focused education and awareness initiatives and identifying practice-based improvements to enhance staff safety. The NPS ensures that workplace violence prevention is embedded in clinical workflows orientation and ongoing professional development aligning with organizational safety goals and regulatory expectations.

A strong PL must be able to:

  • Communicate effectively toward negotiating multiple perspectives within the organization and driving change
  • Demonstrate clinical judgment and establish clinical credibility with nursing and interprofessional colleagues within the system unit and service line
  • Exhibit self-direction in maintaining professional knowledge and competence
  • Apply critical thinking and analytic skills to design and implement change
  • Build rapport with and provide mentorship to clinical nurses
  • Partner effectively with colleagues to advance the professional nursing practice environment
  • Focus on Nursing Professional Development

Work Schedule: Flexible 9/80 work schedule with intermittent remote options.

Work Location: Must live in Oregon Washington Portland-Vancouver metroplex within 100-mile radius to OHSU main campus and clinics.

Travel: Based on professional development opportunities including out-of-town conferences.
