Job Description

This position exists to provide vacation and sick time relief for regularly scheduled operators. The hours of work will vary and a 1B or above operators license is required.

Salary Range: $33.07 - $38.40 / hourly

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid steam engineers license Minnesota 1st class B Engineers license or higher is required.

Preferred Qualification

  • Five (5) years of experience in a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a high-pressure boiler plant and central chiller plant.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep and maintain records and logs and write reports.
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of all boiler and pressure vessel codes as adopted by the State of Minnesota and OSHA and other recognized safety practices.
  • Ability to understand discuss and carryout written and verbal communication with the Chief Engineer pertaining to Utility Plant Problems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Other Requirements

Work safely at all times which includes but is not limited to participating and completing all required safety trainings as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools equipment and personal protective equipment.

The Minnesota State University Mankato Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available for your review. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the University. The policy statements address the schools policies procedures and programs concerning safety and security. Three years worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on-campus or in other University affiliated locations. This position requires a valid applicable drivers license as well as a DVS records check with an acceptable rating. Employees must have an active valid and applicable drivers license if they drive a vehicle on state business. For further information please refer to the Drivers License and Record Check Policy (HR/LR Policy #1419) which can be found at: requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds twist and bend climb step ladders climb ships ladders and be able to service overhead equipment. Must have the ability to manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools. As part of this work the incumbent must be able to align parts and install fasteners such as screws bolts nuts and clamps. Incumbent must be able to grip lift and manipulate moderately heavy objects such as electric motors metal guards and metal housings.
