POSITION: High School Online Mentor Teacher(General Posting) (Job # 3110)

POSITION SUMMARY: The online mentor works directly with students enrolled in high school online classes toprovideface-to-face support and weekly monitoring. The online mentor assists students in time management and learning how to communicate regularly through digital platforms.

REPORTS TO: Principal

KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS: These are pre-employment knowledge abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions. At the time of employment in good standing.

  1. Be a current Calvert County Public Schools employee in good standing.
  2. Demonstrate skill in online learning and the use of a variety of instructional strategies and techniques including technology.
  3. Demonstrate skill in organizational and time management strategies.
  4. Demonstrate ability in written and oral communication.
  5. Demonstrate ability to relate effectively to students teachers staff central officepersonnel parents and community members.
  6. Demonstrate success in accomplishing tasks consistent with those responsibilities listed below.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may findappropriateand acceptable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manages acaseload of up to six students.
  2. Conducts weekly reviews of the onlinecoursecalendar assignments andcoursestatistics tomonitorstudent progress.
  3. Consults with students in person through email or by phone at least once a week tomonitorstudent progress andprovidesupport.
  4. Communicate and intervene on an escalating basis with school-based counselor and/or building administration when a student fails to make adequate progress.
  5. Coordinate services for students as needed including the securing of studentassistancethroughcontact with thecourseinstructor via email or telephone and/or facilitation of the contact of another teacher or student for tutoring.
  6. Consult with parent/guardian as neededto report on student progress.
  7. Complete a bi-weekly log that documents communication withthe student parent and the online teacher.
  8. Participate in an online professional learning community including discussion boards best practices as an online mentor and support in navigating specific Learning Management Systems.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform related work as required or assigned by the school principal.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Extra-duty extra-payposition

FLSASTATUS: Exempt

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:On or after August 1 2025.

EVAULATION: Performancewill be evaluatedannuallyin accordance withthe policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

Interviews may begin 14 days after original posting depending on need of schools. References must be directly related to work experience and must include immediate supervisor.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1 1986 who will have contact with school children must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

Pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicantsare requiredto report all former employment where direct contact with minors may have occurred.
