Job Skills / Requirements
We are looking to hire an energetic floor tech to keep our buildings floors clean. The floor tech will be responsible for the maintenance of all floor areas and for sustaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. You will remove spots from carpets perform bonnet and extraction carpet cleaning dispose of trash and assist with hazardous waste collection. You will operate floor sweepers buffers strippers canister vacuum cleaners and shop vacuums and you will wear adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with chemicals and equipment.
To be successful in this role you will protect our clients by keeping floors free from harmful microorganisms and by being mindful of slip trip and fall hazards. Preferred candidates are motivated meticulous and able to work with numerous interruptions.
Floor Tech Responsibilities:
- Daily/As-Needed Tasks:
- Dust mop and damp mop hard surface floors using microfiber systems.
- Spot clean spills and stains promptly to prevent buildup or damage.
- Ensure caution signage is in place when floors are wet or being serviced.
- Routine Floor Maintenance (Weekly/Monthly):
- Machine scrub floors using automatic scrubbers or swing machines.
- Apply neutral cleaner solutions or TruShot/Betco systems as assigned.
- Remove scuff marks gum or residue using appropriate tools or spot pads.
- Specialty Floor Work (Monthly/Quarterly/As Scheduled):
- Strip and Wax (VCT):Remove old finish neutralize floors and apply multiple coats of wax (typically 45 coats for shine and protection).
- Buffing/Burnishing:Use high-speed burnishers to restore floor gloss and maintain finish integrity.
- Top Scrub and Recoat:Perform surface cleaning and reapplication of finish without full stripping.
- Tile & Grout Detailing:Deep clean grout lines and tile using scrub machines or rotary brushes.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Transport set up and maintain floor equipment (burnishers auto scrubbers wet vacs etc.).
- Label and mix chemicals properly; follow all SDS and safety procedures.
- Report damaged flooring or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
- Ensure floors meet appearance standards especially in medical and high-visibility areas.
- Follow client-specific instructions and scheduling for floor care (e.g. after-hours or weekend floor care work).
Floor Tech Requirements:
- High school diploma GED or suitable equivalent preferred.
- Floor maintenance experience preferred.
- Completion of drug test.
- Completion of on-the-job training.
- Undeterred by exposure to hazardous chemicals bodily fluids and communicable and infectious diseases.
- Resilient to noise.
- Physically agile.
- Excellent communication skills.

Work Schedule:
Janco offers flexible shift options based on building needs and client schedules:
1st Shift (Day Shift): Typically between 7:00 AM 3:00 PM
2nd Shift (Evening Shift): Typically between 6:00 PM 11:00 PM
3rd Shift (Overnight Shift): Typically between 10:00 PM 6:00 AM
Most janitorial positions are on 2nd or 3rd shift Sunday through Thursday.
