Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Special Incentive: Employees that are assigned to the Close-Security Unit will receive a $3000.00 incentive.

*The salary amounts provided represent the minimum and maximum ranges based on years of current agency service plus incentive structures at SCDC. It is important to note that not all individuals may qualify for the highest tier of base pay adjustments and incentives.


  • Inspect the exercise yard for contraband and ensure fences braces and tie downs etc. are secured and intact by thoroughly inspecting the entire recreation yard prior to allowing inmates into the recreation yard.
  • Provide direct supervision of all wing activities and functions.
  • Conduct security checks at least every 30 minutes on an irregular basis (Safe cells 15 minutes). These security checks will be recorded in the Logbook and the Zebra Scanners.
  • Conduct count showers and shake down cells.
  • Prepare and submit written reports of all events.
  • Maintain surveillance and search for contraband.
  • Ensure that the highest standard of cleanliness and sanitation are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure Multi-Threat Vest and face shield are properly worn by all staff when present on the wing.
  • Ensure that all inmates are strip-searched and restrained to the highest level of security prior to entering/exiting the cell.
  • Report inmate complaints for appropriate action to be taken.
  • Escort inmates for structured activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by a supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have 12 months work experience in corrections security military or police work.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Tattoos: Must not be offensive and/or gang related or visibly located on the face or head. Tattoos on the neck will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Cannot have been convicted of a crime with a maximum allowable sentence of one year or more or a fine of $1000.
  • Must pass a physical examination administered by SCDC.
  • Must be certified.
