The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. POSITION DUTIES

A Correctional Case Management Manager is the managerial level of work in assessing and evaluating the personal and criminal history of adult inmates to recommend a security level and in developing and monitoring appropriate work and educational programs. Employees in this classification manage all aspects of inmate classification work in the institution and directly supervise Correctional Case Management Supervisors.
  • Plans coordinates supervises and evaluates the work of Correctional Case Management Supervisors;
  • Trains Correctional Case ManagementSupervisors;
  • Reviews reports and recommendations of Correctional Case Management Specialist staff and may approve or disapprove recommendations as the Wardens designee;
  • Conducts unit staff meetings to keep the staff informed of changes to regulations and programs;
  • Reviews and drafts institutional directives on inmate classification to ensure compliance with Division of Correction regulations;
  • Makes recommendations to the Assistant Warden or Warden about proposed departmental policy and procedural changes;
  • Counsels staff on the violation of rules and regulations and makes recommendations for disciplinary action;
  • Responds to questions from inmates inmates families attorneys Parole Commissioners and others about custody status decisions and about institutional policies and regulations;
  • Serves on institutional and division task forces and committees;
  • May investigate inmate complaints against the case management unit and prepare a response for the Warden;
  • May conduct adjustment hearings to determine the guilt or innocence of inmates who have been charged with violating institutional rules and recommend appropriate sanctions for inmates found guilty of a violation;
  • Performs other related duties.

Must be willing to work within a correctional institution and interact directly with inmates and offenders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in assessing inmates security risk and inmates program needs for the purpose of determining correct security classifications and developing program plans.

Notes:

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Title 12 Subtitle 10 of the Code of Maryland Regulations.

2. Candidates may substitute one year of experience as a Correctional Officer for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute one year of experience as a Correctional Dietary Officer Correctional Maintenance Officer or Correctional Supply Officer for one year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in correctional classifications or correctional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at the rate of two years of military experience for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supervising subordinate staff making recommendations for disciplinary action and completing routine performance evaluations of staff.
  • Experience completing reports and conducting staff meetings.
  • Experience responding to questions from inmates inmates families attorneys Parole Commissioners and others about custody status decisions institutional policies and regulations.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the required selection standards and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Classification Counselor. Selection standards for correctional training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.04 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
