Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The group Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics of Cancer at the IGTP is looking for a junior Bioinformatician to work on different projects related to cancer genomics and translational bioinformatics. The selected candidate will participate in multiple ongoing projects working with single-cell data nanopore sequencing transcriptomics and epigenomics.
While there is funding for at least to the end of 2025 the candidate is expected to apply with the group to PhD funding opportunities and to do the PhD with us if any of the applications is successful.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will work on different projects of the group analysing genomics and epigenomics data of different types. They will take responsibility of specific tasks and small projects and collaborate in projects lead by other group members and external collaborators.
They are expected to learn and grow within the group and apply to PhD funding opportunities with help from the group members.
They will present their work in internal group meetings and in internal seminars at the IGTP.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
Required experience and qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Bioinformatics Biology Biotechnology Computer Science or related.
  • Masters degree or enrolled in a Masters and expected to finish by June-July 2025.
  • Basic knowledge of genomic and/or epigenomic data analysis including processing of NGS data.
  • Experience using R for data analysis and visualization.
  • You want to learn new things experiment and be creative.
  • Not hired as PhD student for more than six months in total.
  • Being able to work in a team. Taking responsibility of your own tasks and projects but able to work hand in hand with other members of the group.
  • Intermediate-advanced English. No specific certificate is required but the candidate is expected to be able to communicate effectively in English.
This will also be valued but it is not required:
  • Experience using Linux and computational clusters (HPC).
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing nanopore and/or single-cell data.
  • Experience with workflow management systems (nextflow snakemake).
  • Fluent in Catalan and/or Spanish.

  • Gross annual remuneration in line with the position offered in this call will be adjusted based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate distributed in 12 payments.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre located in Badalona. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community.
