Job Description

Grandview Heights Schools is accepting applications for a School Crossing Guardfor the2025-2026 school year. This position is2.0 hours per day (this is a split shift; 1hr in the AM and 1hr in the PM) 177 days per year. This position will be hired through the Educational Service Center (ESC).

Title:School Crossing Guard
Reports To: Building Principal
Terms:177 days

Job Responsibilities:
  • Controls the movement of automobiles and trucks at school crossings
  • Places school sentinel signs in the roadway at designated points near crossing and removes them before going off duty
  • Directs vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely
  • Controls children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations
  • Reports children who fail to cooperate to the school principal
  • Instructs children in elements of traffic safety

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Ability to work in inclement weather throughout the year
  • Ability and skill in working with children
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction
  • Ability to show courtesy and tact
