This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.
Eligibility for SEBB medical dental vision life insurance AD&D and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave vacation leave (260-day employees only) and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Job Description: Bilingual Liaison
Responsible to: Choice Schools Principal
Work Year: 180 Days 6 hours per day
General: Under the direction of the building principals the Bilingual Liaison ParaProfessional will work in collaboration with school-based teams to support students in regard to re engaging in school. As such the Bilingual Liaison will perform a variety of duties including direct services to students and facilitating communication between and among school personnel educators and families of students. Due to the nature of our educational choice programs the schedule of this position may require some flexibility including supporting building or district sponsored events and may be made at the discretion of the building administrator. Specific programs that this position will support include Aspire Academy (both onsite and online) and Skagit Academy. This role will also work as a liaison with other programs.
Minimum Qualification:
Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
Meet Highly Qualified Standards for classified staff.
Bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish or other languages preferred.
Ability to participate in district interpreting training including competency testing.
Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently.
Must be able to function in a calm efficient courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties.
Ability to interact with people of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in respectful and supportive ways.
Ability to handle student and family information in a confidential manner.
Must be able to gather information and keep accurate records.
Must be able to complete work accurately and completely with regularity and timeliness.
Must be willing to work non-standard hours including evenings to accommodate school and family expectations.
Must be able to travel and possess a valid Washington State Drivers License and automobile insurance. Ability to obtain a Type II Drivers License.

Position Responsibilities:
Team Participation
This position will work under the supervision of designated Building Administrators. This position will work collaboratively with school-based staff and will proactively participate in team and building meetings as needed.
Work collaboratively with school secretaries counselors school nurses teachers and specialists to support students and families.

Intake
Assist with student enrollment and registration and work collaboratively with school secretaries counselors teachers school nurse and specialists.
Home-School Connection
Assist with the facilitation of connections between school staff (school secretaries counselors school nurses teachers and specialists) and multilingual and migrant families including interpreting support and setting appointments.
Assist students with Re Engagement / Graduation support.
As requested assist and facilitate home visits and meetings related to health discipline attendance and/or special education.
Support school/home written and verbal communication ensuring that essential communication be provided in home language. Coordinate and facilitate family engagement efforts to build capacity in families and strengthen the relationship between school and community (may include evening events).

Student Support
Work with students daily to set short-term and long-term goals; help students monitor and evaluate their progress towards their goals.
Connect students to school supports and outside services including after school programs sports clubs and extracurricular activities.
Provide a safe space and mentorship for students
Connect and do outreach to students who have not graduated and are no longer enrolled to determine if they would be able to access one of our available services.
Assessment
Assist with coordination of alternative/supplemental assessment opportunities for students (PASS AAPPL etc.)
Assist with language assessments.
Assist with coordination of students accessing competency-based credits and Seal of Biliteracy for migrant and bilingual students.
Conferences
Assist with parent/teacher conferences.
Perform such other duties as from time to time may be required

Education and/or Experience:
At a minimum possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet Highly Qualified standards required for classified instructional assistant staff.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish required both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively and accurately present information and communicate clearly to adults as well as students.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate a personal computer and software. Must have the ability to develop a liaison role between the home school and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Must be able to organize time for maximum efficiency.
