The Montana Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for aPesticide Recycling Assistant. Immediate need open until filled.

The mission of the Department of Agriculture is to protect producers and consumers and to enhance and develop agriculture and allied industries.

The Agricultural Sciences Division provide agricultural producers and consumers commodity and environmental protection through the administration of the Montana laws and rules in the areas of pesticides groundwater monitoring noxious weed control feeds fertilizers seed anhydrous ammonia grain commodity dealers commodity warehousemen nurseries produce mint honey bees alfalfa leaf cutting bees and other services including organic certification pest management consulting laboratory analysis pest surveys export certification and quarantines.

Job Overview:

This position operates the pesticide container mobile recycling unit on alarge truck and trailer combination generator and grinder. The incumbent will travel throughout the state assisting the driver collecting and processing plastic pesticide containers while coordinating with recycling site managers about pick-up dates and times. This is a seasonal position that operates May-November weather depending.

General Assistant to the Pesticide Recycling Truck Driver:

  • Collects prepared pesticide containers and ensures that containers are prepared correctly for recycling.
  • Coordinates pesticide container pick-ups with collection site managers.
  • Communicates with site managers about site issues such as dirty containers site maintenance and container enclosures.
  • Often works with farmers commercial pesticide applicators and several County weed districts while loading plastic containers onto the truck which requires excellent customer service skills.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • All employees are required to create and maintain a safe and secure working environment by adhering to MDA safety security and health requirements; as well as attend any necessary training and implement best practices in order to mitigate injury illness and loss prevention.
  • The incumbent will travel across Montana to perform work up to 90% of the time. Weekly multiple overnight stays will be required.
  • The incumbent will perform job duties while wearing personal protective equipment including hearing and eye protection coveralls and boots that can sustain pesticides and pesticide residues.
  • This position requires standing bending and stooping repeatedly and for long periods of time. Repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required. Long periods of sitting will result from driving long distances throughout Montana.
  • Many sites are quite remote and others are in industrial environments such as landfills recycling centers and agricultural supply facilities. The incumbent must be able to work safely in these locations.
  • The incumbent must be able to work in hot cold or otherwise inclement weather. Workdays may exceed eight hours per day while traveling.
  • Clean driving record required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience with operating and maintaining large heavy equipment.
