Import & Export Compliance Manager

Overview:

The Import & Export Compliance Manager is responsible for leading and enhancing Azentas global trade compliance program. This role ensures the companys international trade operations comply with applicable U.S. and global import/export laws including EAR OFAC and Customs regulations. Reporting to the Senior Director this position involves developing implementing and maintaining compliance programs for import/export operations managing regulatory risks and collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to trade laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop implement and oversee import/export compliance policies procedures and internal controls to ensure conformance with global trade regulations and company standards.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in U.S. and international trade laws and regulations; provide proactive compliance guidance to leadership and key business units.
  • Manage the companys export/import regulatory activities including ECCN and HTS classifications country of origin determinations product valuation and license/permit applications.
  • Lead sanctioned party list screening processes and escalate compliance risks where necessary.
  • Oversee the use of the Automated Export System (AES) SNAP-R license submissions and management of end-use/end-user statements.
  • Act as primary liaison with external partners including customs brokers freight forwarders and government agencies such as BIS CBP and DDTC.
  • Lead internal audits risk assessments and investigations; develop corrective actions and file voluntary disclosures as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Procurement Engineering Order Administration Legal and Finance to support compliant and efficient global supply chain execution.
  • Provide strategic oversight of Drawback Program administration.
  • Develop and deliver trade compliance training programs across the organization; ensure training records are properly maintained.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation and ensure audit readiness for all import/export transactions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Supply Chain Management International Trade or a related field.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in import/export trade compliance.
  • U.S. Customs Broker License strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. trade laws and regulations including practical use of EAR OFAC and SNAP-R.
  • Familiarity with government PGA requirements from the USDA FDA CDC and similar agencies
  • In-depth knowledge of international trade documentation INCOTERMS Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) ECCN classifications and valuation practices.
  • Experience administering drawback programs and conducting internal compliance audits.
  • Familiarity with Customs regulations in the EU and Asia.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and present to senior leadership.
  • Experience in the Life Sciences industry and industry certifications (e.g. CECP CCS) are a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US sponsorship is not available
