Salary Range: SP3 Level 5 $92320 - $115400 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors including education qualifications experience and internal equity. This position may be eligible to receive a Northern Living allowance. Northern Living allowances are provided based on the location of the position and where an employee primarily works and resides.
Emergency Response Coordinator - Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC) supports the Alberta Energy Regulators (AERs) environmental protection and public safety mandate. The ERC coordinates the AERs response to incidents and emergencies in energy and mineral sectors collaboratively with both industry and stakeholders including the public to expand awareness and knowledge of emergency preparedness emergency response requirements and best practices. The ERC ensures industrys compliance with applicable rules and regulations assures public safety and environmental protection around energy and mineral development in Alberta.
The ERC also helps to ensure that appropriate emergency response plans (ERPs) are in place so that industry maintains an effective level of preparedness and has the necessary resources and trained personnel in place to respond to an incident or emergency. The ERC also provides training both internally and externally to increasing capacity for an efficient and effective response to incidents and emergencies within Alberta.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Responsible for being on-call 24 hours during a 7-day period on a weekly rotation.
Review reported incidents/emergencies then coordinate and/or support the AER efforts to ensure external parties conduct(s) a proper response.
Coordinate the AERs response to high-risk provincial and regional incidents/emergencies.
Deploy (when required) to the field to coordinate the AERs response to incidents/emergencies and ensure industry duty holders are taking the necessary response measures.
Prepare and distribute notifications regarding incident status for AERs executive leadership as well as leadership within other government agencies ministries and partners.
Liaise with and provide support to industry and other response agencies during incident response which may include identifying coordinating and liaising with AER personnel.
Support an AER Departmental Operation Centre (DOC) if activated.
Provide support as the AERs Consequence Management Officer (CMO) to the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC).
Evaluate industry duty holders level of emergency preparedness and compliance with rules through auditing Emergency Management Programs (EMPs) using auditing principles and in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
Receive review and approve Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) of industry duty holders.
Assess industrys capability to respond to incidents through ERP exercise evaluations by attending and reviewing industry exercises in the field.
What were looking for in you:
Diploma in emergency response emergency management or other related education.
3-5 years of experience in emergency response/emergency management with a focus in the energy sector.
Experience with risk-informed decision making and the ability to multitask manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
Academic and practical experience in emergency management principles phases and incident command as well as a strong knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) is preferred.
Strong knowledge and understanding of AERs Directive 071: Emergency Preparedness and Response as well as AERs emergency preparedness and response requirements procedures is preferred.
Possess the qualities of a strong team player able to work within a high functioning team in both non-stressful and stressful environments.
Comfortable with change and the ability to meet AER performance goals and maintain alignment with division goals and strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound recommendations based on expertise.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with special attention to detail and technical accuracy.
Additional Information:
All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application.
Pre-placement Medical required due to the physical elements of the role which include walking on uneven surfaces and climbing stairwells entering and exiting vehicles driving long distances and working in all weather conditions.
Possess a fully valid class 5 drivers license along with a positive driving record.
Additional training is required and will be provided First Aid H2S Alive Defensive Driver Training and Safe Trailering Training.
Required travel on a possible monthly basis with potential overnight stays.
This role participates in a hybrid work schedule and the work is comprised of 50% field work and 50% office work.
