General Information:

The School of Art Design and Art History at James Madison University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Architectural Design in our BFA of Architectural Design program. We seek a candidate who wishes to participate in a collaborative community that fosters independent thought and creativity embraces the diversity of cultural expression and cultivates inclusive excellence in the making and understanding of Architectural Design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach architectural design studios plus courses in history theory practice representation visualization and/or materials and methods of contemporary architectural design. These courses utilize skills ranging from research hand-drawing software proficiency as well as digital and analog fabrication with a concentration on hybrid techniques. Dexterity with and knowledge of contemporary global issues/practices in design communication is essential. The position is a full-time and 10-month academic appointment in our BFA in Architectural Design program. In order to participate in our collaborative community there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be on campus and available to students four days per week during the academic year and serve the program and school. Contract term begins two weeks prior to classes beginning in August and ends two weeks after Commencement in May. We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment towards building an engaging scholarly environment.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should minimally hold a graduate degree in architecture or equivalent international terminal degree in architecture.
Evidence of an active scholarly and/or innovative design practice with a focus on design excellence.
Demonstrated commitment towards building an engaging scholarly environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Versatility with contemporary technology and architectural theory.
Teaching experience in design studio and other electives at the undergraduate level.
Capacity to advocate and collaborate with all students and faculty.
A genuine passion for student experiences above personal research or practice.
Versatile and adaptable in scheduling and teaching subject per each semester.
Ability to contribute to curriculum development.
