Job
Summary:

The Director of Accessibility Services provides strategic leadership vision and direction for campus accessibility and inclusion efforts. This role ensures compliance with disability-related legislation promotes inclusive learning environments through Universal Design and fosters a campus climate where students with disabilities and neurodivergent learners are supported empowered and fully included in all aspects of campus life. The Director works collaboratively across the institution leads staff and promotes access and student success by considering individual needs and experiences.

Strategic Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Lead the development implementation and continuous improvement of accessibility policies programs and services to support student success and institutional compliance.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for all operations of the Accessibility Services Office.
  • Partner with multiple departments across the campus community to ensure equitable access across campus.
  • Serve as a key advisor and contributor to institutional efforts to create welcoming respectful and inclusive environments for all students including those with disabilities and access needs.

Compliance Accommodations and Access:

  • Evaluate documentation and determine eligibility for accommodations in accordance with legal standards and professional practice.
  • Facilitate access and reasonable accommodations for students across academic residential dining and co-curricular settings.
  • Oversee and ensure high quality operation of the Accessibility Services Testing Center and supervisetesting services personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws legal trends and best practices to ensure institutional compliance.
  • Coordinate adaptive and assistive technology services.
  • Address concerns and appeals related to accommodations.

Universal Design Learning:

  • Partner with faculty to promote learning environments that are accessible and engaging for all students to thrive.
  • Provide faculty consultation and guidance to implement flexible instructional strategies and classroom environments that support neurodivergent learners.
  • Advocate for and support the integration of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and proactive design strategies.
  • Collaborate with IT and instructional design to ensure digital and online content meet accessibility standards.

Campus Education and Outreach:

  • Develop and deliver campus-wide training and professional development for campus community on disability awareness access and inclusion.
  • Design and deliver training and programming that promote awareness of neurodiversity and help the campus community better support neurodivergent students in and outside the classroom.
  • Promote accessibility and disability inclusion through outreach awareness campaigns and partnerships with identity-based and wellness-focused programs.

Supervision and Administration:

  • Hire train supervise and evaluate Accessibility Services staff.
  • Manage the offices budget strategic plan and assessment initiatives including tracking student outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Ensure efficient service delivery through technology systems (e.g. AIM etc.) and strong data management practices.

Crisis Support and Campus Engagement:

  • Participate in campus committees and initiatives related to student support emergency preparedness and equity-based practices.
  • Provide consultation and support to faculty staff students and families navigating complex accessibility issues.
  • Serve as a student advocate and resource during times of transition crisis or challenge.
Minimum
Qualifications & Education:
  • Masters degreein higher education disability services counseling rehabilitation or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in higher education disability services including leadership and supervision.
  • Demonstrated expertise with accessibility software adaptive technologies and disability-related accommodation platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of Universal Design disability justice frameworks and intersectional approaches to student success.
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent students through proactive coaching executive functioning support and/or identity-affirming services is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in delivering campus-wide training creating educational materials and facilitating collaborative problem solving.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of ADA Section 504 and Fair Housing Act.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication interpersonal and mediation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to serve students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Technological proficiency with Microsoft Office student information systems (e.g. Banner) and accommodation software platforms.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based customer service role in an office environment.
  • Regular use of a computer and databases.
  • Flexible scheduling and must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
