Job Description
The XPLORERS Programs for NextGen Learners is part of the Pell Initiative for Virginia (PIV) funded by a grant by the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV). The program will bolster Virginia Tech K-12 outreach initiatives that contribute to successful engagement enrollment academic achievement and graduation for low-income (LI) students. The overarching goal of the program is to enhance students STEM interest and awareness while exposing them to college and career pathways.
The XPLORERS Programs will enhance academic enrichment and college access initiatives in Virginia schools building on existing efforts in College Access Collaborative (CAC) partner high schools; provide educational outreach and engagement activities for students and their families and award scholarships to for Pell-eligible students. The Outreach and Programming Assistant will join the project team to assist with year-round academic enrichment skills development and college planning services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple on-going projects meet deadlines and work in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience working with low-income and first-generation student populations and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with pre-college programs.
