BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
Reporting to the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Coordinator in the School Meals and Social Protection Service the Senior Advisor Advocacy and Engagement will provide insights and identify opportunities globally and in key fundraising markets for EDs visibility and strategic positioning. The role requires a high degree of independence and involves expertise in negotiating the complexities of both private sector engagement civil society and UN-system collaborations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Coordinator the Senior Advisor Advocacy and Engagement will be responsible for the following key duties:
Leads on identifying visibility opportunities and strategic positioning for the Executive Director (in line with the EDs Voice Strategy) with focus on private sector partners in order to raise WFPs profile and generate donor support.
Identifies visibility opportunities and establish partnerships with like-minded business networks and people of interest e.g. WBCSD Milken Institute vocal business leaders etc.
Provides strategic advice to WFP Senior Management on their engagement at the UNGA and leading to Davos.
DELIVERABLES:
A strategic recommendations and action plan (including mapping of opportunities for the EDs voice and engagement) for WFPs strategic positioning among private sectors foundations philanthropy. Including identified potential private sector partners to help amplify WFPs profile and visibility.
A detailed engagement plan for the ED and other LGs in related business forums.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in political science international relations social science economics law public administration or a related field.
Experience:
12-15 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in strategic partnerships building and management and policy advocacy in international development and humanitarian sector.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of social change and sustainable development project management high-level partnerships communications campaigns and advocacy.
Strong negotiation and communication skills;
Proven track record of executing high-level activities and events for diverse stakeholders;
Ability to guide the design of clear and compelling advocacy briefs/products and find innovative ways of outreach/engagement
Understanding of the dynamics of intra-organizational communications within large international organizations;
Excellent oral and writing skills;
Well organized and detail oriented;
Ability to work independently or on a team.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English is required.
