The Massachusetts State Director will lead exploratory work of a state based Working Families Party in MA. This role requires a high level of entrepreneurial leadership excellent strategic and political judgement and skill building and maintaining relationships and coalitions. You will work with our New England and State Power Teamsas well as the MA WFP exploratory committeeto:
-Build the power of the multi-racial working class within the state
-Make strategic interventions in key state local and federal elections
- Support development of members within the party as activists and as leaders
-Cultivate relationships with labor and community groups
- Chart a sustainable path for building WFP in Massachusetts
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership (25%)
Work with the Exploratory Committee to run pilot races engage activists and evaluate and chart a path to gain a full charter from the Working Families Party National Committee
Lead analysis of the political landscape and make plans to have impact on governing power
Build and maintain relationships with key institutional partners
Set clear priorities and metrics for state operations
2. Fundraising (15%)
Lead local fundraising initiatives (individual donors foundations organizational contributors) with an initial fundraising responsibility in the range of 200-300k.
Collaborate with Regional Director and Development team on grant proposals and major donor cultivation
Work with staff and the treasurer to ensure legal and campaign finance compliance
Plan and work with other staff and volunteers to implement membership drives and fundraising events
3. Organizing (25%)
Create opportunities for activists to engage
Foster activist leadership to take on additional responsibility
Develop sustainable groups of activists in key cities
Deliver political education programing and connect activists to partners delivering political education programing
Engage in local political planning processes and coalitions
4. Campaigns (25%)
Develop in coordination with the Regional Director and the MA WFP Exploratory Committee the organizations legislative and electoral campaigns priorities
Define contribution to existing policy campaigns
Plan & execute meaningful interventions in priority races
Coordinate electoral recruitment and organizing efforts
Coach leaders partners and eventually other staff to develop and execute electoral campaigns including excellent field operations and aligned and powerful messaging
Ensure electoral interventions build toward organizing and long term power objectives
Working with the compliance team ensure state and local campaign finance rules are followed
5. External Leadership & Representation (10%)
Serve as primary spokesperson for the WFP in MA
Collaborate with New England Regional Communications Director on narrative strategy
Tell a story that reaches voters broadly about the power and priorities of working people
Represent MA WFP in coalition spaces

Skills & Qualifications
5 years in community and/or/ labor organizing including at least 3 years in a leadership role and several electoral cycles of experience on political campaigns
Demonstrated Commitment to justice and a history of fighting for working people
Demonstrated ability to make and stick to strategic plans
Experience with building coalitions capable of executing shared strategies including working with leaders elected officials and organizations with diverse background and interests
Strong analytical skills and sound political judgment
Persuasive verbal and writing skills including the ability to communicate effectively in a charged atmosphere
Proven capacity to effectively and thoughtfully lead other staff and drive performance
Demonstrated ability to create sustainable work environments and manage toward priorities with limited resources
Demonstrated success in fundraising and relationship management
Willingness to work irregular hours over the course of the year including nights/ weekends
Valid drivers license and ability to drive throughout the state required (mileage reimbursed)
Intermediate computer skills including GSuite
Preferred: Votivate/VAN experience Spanish language skills familiarity with Massachusetts movement ecosystem
What Else Should You Know
Compensation: The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale which takes into consideration years of experience geographic location and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience. The final salary offer will fall into one of the following ranges depending on where you live:
National Market (Worcester Springfield) - $85000 to $120570
High Market - $97750 - $135125
Very High Market (Boston) - $106250 - $143750

Location and Travel: This is a hybrid role requiring you to work some days per week in person at various locations for meetings and events in MA. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings a few times per year.
Schedule: The position is full time.
