Job Title:Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Department:County Garage

External Hiring Range:$58450.38-$71845.29

Compensation Grade:3004

Pay Range:$58450.38 - $90598.09

Purpose of the position:

The purpose of this position is to perform administrative supervisory and technical work directing the operations of the County garage facility.

Minimum Education Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of experience in the repair adjustment and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: ASE Master Triple Master in Chrysler and supervisor training through Argus Insurance Services.

Essential Functions of the position:

  • Plan and coordinate the activities of the County Garage; direct the maintenance and repair parts and servicing operations.
  • Develop and implement improved garage operational maintenance and repair policies and procedures; oversee and participate in the preparation and maintenance of requisite records and reports.
  • Direct the development of staff training and safety programs; supervise the maintenance of garage buildings facilities and equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to subordinate personnel on difficult or unusual problems.
  • Inspect garage facilities and equipment to determine their proper utilization and maintenance; ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Assist in the replacement and procurement of County Vehicles; Coordinates the up-fit of County Vehicles to meet department needs
  • Maintain files on all vehicles and equipment repaired.
  • Prepare weekly monthly quarterly and yearly reports concerning various aspects of the vehicle and equipment maintenance program.
  • Oversee the purchase of parts and materials as necessary when items are not in stock.
  • Assist in budget development; maintains simple records such as cost of maintenance and repair activities and time and attendance records.
  • Assist in the sale of surplus County fleet vehicles.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the standard practices materials tools and equipment employed in the mechanical repair of light and heavy automotive vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automotive mechanic trade.
  • Knowledge of the materials and parts used for the repair of automotive vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the various testing devices machines and hand tools used in mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision organization and administration.
  • Skill in the use of machine and hand tools.
  • Ability to plan coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to diagnose difficult or unusual vehicle conditions and malfunctions and to determine effective corrective measures.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and compile data into report form.
