Job Description

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2026.

We seek candidates specializing in Asian Studies with expertise in the social sciences. We especially welcome applicants with background in cultural anthropology human geography social history or other related fields

The successful candidate will be expected to teach both lower-division introductory courses and upper-division courses in their area of specialization in the Asian and Pacific Studies Program. The ability to contribute to the departments broader curricular vision of transpacific and global Asia studies is preferred. The candidate will also be expected to help grow the number of majors and minors in Asian and Pacific Studies and to contribute to the vibrancy of the faculty and student community within and beyond the department.

Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and strong scholarship or scholarly potential. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research agendascomplement and broadenthe departments existing strengths. APh.D. in fields consistent with the position is requiredby the time of appointment.

The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty isover a two-year cycle with expectations to advise students and provide service to the department college and university. We invite candidates of all backgrounds life experiences and beliefs to apply.
