Job SummaryThe Elementary Social Emotional Support Paraeducator will work under the direction of building administration and school counselors to provide targeted social-emotional and behavioral support to students in grades PreK-5. This role involves assisting students individually or in small groups to develop social skills manage emotions and foster a positive school experience. This position oversees - in collaboration with the school counselors - our C.A.R.E.S. Corner/Responsibility Room assisting students with self-regulation and the implementation of strategies to engage in prosocial expected behaviors. Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies and interventions as directed by teachers or students with emotional regulation and conflict resolution in classroom playground or other school one-on-one or small-group support to students with behavioral or social-emotional challenges following Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when with teachers counselors and administrators to monitor student progress and adapt support strategies as a safe and inclusive environment by modeling positive behavior and promoting respectful with classroom management transitions and activities to support a positive learning student behavior and progress sharing observations with the instructional team as students during extracurricular activities field trips or other school events as confidentiality and adhere to school policies including those related to student safety and school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree or higher in education psychology or a related field preferred).At least 1 year of experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting (experience with social-emotional or behavioral support is a plus).Knowledge of or willingness to learn social-emotional learning (SEL) practices and behavioral intervention interpersonal and communication skills to engage with students staff and empathy and the ability to remain calm in challenging to work collaboratively with teachers counselors and other school ability to engage with students (e.g. bending kneeling or lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed).
