Job Description

  • Educational and Experience Requirements: Bachelors degree in forestry or a related field or equivalent experience; at least 2 years of experience managing loggers on active logging jobs (3 years preferred) and planning/supervising roadwork and forestry BMPs (3 years preferred).

  • Safety and Standards Commitment: Strong commitment to adhering to established safety standards for employees and contractors.

  • Team Collaboration and Leadership: Display strong teaming skills willingness to collaborate in a diverse team environment and the ability to hold contractors accountable professionally.

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Forest Inventory/GIS systems proficiency in computer software (particularly Excel) and knowledge of mobile applications like Avenza Maps and Field Maps.

  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks showcasing strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Adept at problem-solving facing diversity on a daily basis and flexibility to take on additional projects and assignments as required.

What We Offer

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program and we are targeting a salary range of $57960 - $102556 based on your level of skills qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our companys 401k plan which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition after being employed for six months eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year providing a total of 88 holiday hours.

Join our team within the Southern Timberlands Business operating in the Mississippi Louisiana Region. As a planning forester youll report directly to the region Planning Manager. This opportunity is a full-time exempt role situated in Brookhaven MS.

You will be a role model for safety holding yourself and others accountable to Weyerhaeusers safety policies. You will ensure that we maintain our SFI certification by complying with Environmental Policies and the Best Management Practices of Mississippi.

Key Functions:

  • Harvest Plan Development: Create harvest plans that align with the needs of the Brookhaven Wood Flow Organization and comply with the MSLA Strategic Harvest Plan.

  • Field Collaboration: Spend at least 50% of your time in the field working with harvest managers and managing contractors to ensure effective execution of harvest plans.

  • Harvest Unit Preparation: Ensure harvest units are ready for logging 1.25 years prior to the scheduled harvest date.

  • Contractor Management: Develop and supervise road construction and maintenance projects ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.

  • Support During Timber Harvests: Serve as a trusted advisor and support staff to harvest managers during active timber harvests.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with various aspects of the Southern Timberlands Business including GIS Drone Technology Forest Inventory Silviculture Marketing Recreational Leases Carbon Sequestration Oil and Natural Gas Raw Materials Wood Products and Real Estate.

  • Special Projects: As you become competent in your role take on special projects in your areas of interest to further your career growth and development.
