The Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Remediation & Waste Management is seeking to fill an Environmental Specialist IV vacancy in Augusta.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:This is professional services work involved in the development and implementation of the Departments Product Stewardship Programs including batteries; mercury-added switches thermostats and lamps; electronic waste; architectural paint; and pharmaceuticals and several single-use plastic reduction laws such as the single-use plastic bag and polystyrene foam ban. This position supervises a staff of four and oversees the collection and analysis of data submitted as part of reporting requirements under multiple Maine laws for municipalities recycling establishments and other waste management facilities as part the Departments analysis of the States waste and recycling systems for compiling Maines annual Waste Generation and Disposal Capacity Report Maines Materials Management Plan and other reports and informational requests from the legislature public and the facilities themselves. The incumbent will familiarize themselves with the waste generation and recycling landscape and provide education and outreach to municipalities citizens and other interested parties regarding recycling and sustainability and represent the Department on various regional and statewide waste and recycling workgroups and committees. The position collaborates with staff throughout the Department as needed to achieve Department goals. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Remote work is available for this position and follows the DEP Telework Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An eight (8) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental science or related area which includes at least two (2) years of supervisory or program management/administration experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework.
