International Employee Advisor
The OISS International Employee Advisor advises non-immigrant employees and university departments on immigration regulations and processes; files non-immigrant peitiions on behalf of the university; maintains employment-based immigration files for university compliance with immigration regulations; and stays abreast of current issues related to employment-based immigration. Additionally this position provides support services and guidance for international students and scholars visiting MSU.
Hybrid work statement: OISS is currently operating under a hybrid modality structure with staff working three days in person and two days remotely with additional time onsite during peak periods. This structure is subject to change at any time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Advising international employees and departments (90%)
Administrative responsibilities (10%)
Knowledge normally acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree coursework in higher education administration or advising legal studies international studies or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in international student scholar or employee advising; experience with reading interpreting and applying immigration regulations; demonstrated experience as part of a team and service-oriented work environment
A graduate or professional degree in higher education administration or advising legal studies and/or international studies or related field; extensive experience advising international students and scholars in F and J status; knowledge of H1B regulations and previous experience filing H1B petitions; experience working in a globally diverse workplace.
