SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Working with industry-related advisory committee develop and teach a sequence of courses in a program
designed to help students develop academic work readiness and technical skills needed to enter a content
specific workplace or to articulate to post-secondary training content area. Curriculum areas include:
Engineering Design Robotics Computer-based modeling and shop-based fabrication of design ideas.
Class is an exploratory look into the fields of engineering manufacturing and construction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Student leadership employability skills and project-based learning are an integral part of the program and will be incorporated into the curriculum and extended beyond the school day. Teacher responsibilities include:
- Promoting integration of academic skills and specific CCTE curriculum for relevant career preparation.
- Participating in staff development activities to enhance academicintegration.
- Working collaboratively and collegially with a team of teachers to develop an integratedcurriculum.
- Integrating leadership and employability skills into curriculum; promoting student membership in leadershiporganization.
- Working effectively and cooperatively with community parents teachers administrators and support staff.
- Maintain a positive relationship with students staff parents and community by modeling respect cooperation and professionalism with others recognizing the personal achievements and professional contributions of others and demonstrating knowledge of sensitivity toward individuals and groups from all racial ethnic/cultural national socio-economic backgrounds.
- Maintaining a positive learning environment; safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere and effective classroom management and discipline procedures while maintaining good instructor/student communication and rapport.
- Using instructional technology in the delivery ofcurriculum.
- Organizing managing and appropriately maintaining the instructional facility equipment and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe workingenvironment.
- Marketing and promoting CCTE classes.
- Developing quality work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Possessing and maintaining a working knowledge of industry expectations for curriculum and equipment.
- Compiling data required for CCTE district and state reports.
- Develops cultural competence and a commitment to equity in outcomes and opportunities for adults and students.
- Leads for equity towards college and career readiness.
- Nurtures a school environment that celebrates respects and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Publicly draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.
- Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms
- Required:
- Maintain current first aid/CPR card.
- Participate in a minimum of three program advisory committee meetings per school year.
- Participate in mandatory CCTE district Professional Learning Community sessions and Professional Development.
- Participate as an advisor for a College Career and Technical student organization (CTSO) or equivalent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification:
- Must hold a valid Washington Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements to teach grades 6-8.
- Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.
- Must hold or qualify for a Career and Technical Education certificate in Washington State in one of the following areas: Drafting Technology Education Engineering or STEM. Candidates may qualify for CTE Certification by one of the following methods:
- 6000 hours of non-teaching paid occupational work experience in drafting construction engineering or manufacturing.
- 4000 hours of teaching within related CCTE area and 2000 hours of occupational
- 6000 hours of teaching math science or technology.
- Completed or willingness to complete all CCTE required coursework for certification.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a collaborative team member.
- Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communications with diverse communitymembers to include students staff parents and community stakeholders.
- Ability to respond to and engage with a diverse multi-cultural and multi-racial community and to work side by side and foster strong positive relationships with parents staff students and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to extend instruction beyond the classroom into the community.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and empathize with young people.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate Washington Career and Technical Education Program Standards and Academic State Standards into curriculum.
