Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 4) for the Design Center South which is a multi-function Engineering Organization with a mission statement to provide engineering solutions via a highly skilled flexible workforce and cutting edge technologies for the advancement of the Boeing Enterprise. The Design Center provides engineering support to Enterprise wide projects/programs and is a flexible team that strategically adapts to emerging opportunities.
Position Responsibilities:
Provides oversight and direction to develop integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
Leads development maintenance and modification of structural and interior payload system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods to provide product definition to other engineering groups production operations suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
Leads performance integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness quality and efficiency of the development effort.
Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
Generated layouts of propulsion structures to adapt civilian aircraft engines to a military application
Designed nacelle and strut structures using metals and elastomeric materials
Developed designs of aerodynamic seals and manually actuated hold open rod assemblies
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science.
Typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience in structural design process from conceptual layout phase through build-to package release.
Experience in Model Based Definition.
Experience with Full Sized Determinant Assembly.
Catia CAD Enovia and CMPRO skills.
Experience in designing and integrating metals and elastomeric materials.
