Job Description

The Arts & College Preparatory Academy (ACPA) is an arts focused independent community school on the east side of Columbus that serves a diverse population of students in grades 7 through 12 from over 25 different districts in Central Ohio. For over twenty years ACPA has consistently been one of the highest performing charter schools in Ohio and we seek to continue that legacy.

All ACPA Staff are expected to reflect and participate in a progressive school culture of creativity safety inclusion acceptance and anti-bullying as well model and uphold the school values of honesty communication problem-solving kindness respect for diversity participation and awareness in all interactions with school stakeholders including students staff caregivers families and community partners.

The High School Principal is responsible for overseeing all curricular and co-curricular operations and programs for grades 9-12 and is the instructional and community leader of the High School. The High School Principal is responsible for implementing ACPAs mission vision and values and facilitates an instructional program that is heavily rooted in arts integration innovative practices and future readiness.

Section 1: Supervision

  • High School Co-Principal will collaborate with their Co-Principal and Superintendent and building leadership to create and implement rigorous academic and arts centered program that is aligned with ACPAs mission vision and values.
  • Collaboratively High School Co-Principals will share leadership and responsibility of the overall management and operations of instructional areas of the High School to include curriculum development staff supervision student support community engagement and overall vision development.
  • High School Co-Principal oversees building level instructional operations including but not limited to: addressing student and staff needs adhering to school policies schedules budgets overseeing funds collaborate with district personnel to ensure the long-term fiscal health of the organization problem-solving school technology etc.
  • In collaboration with the instructional counseling and student support staff High School Co-Principal is expected to implement a values-based equitable and consistent discipline system as stated in the student handbook while working with the teachers to help improve student academic performance engagement commitment to the arts work ethic general attitudes attendance behavior and overall success.
  • High School Co-Principal is expected to be responsive to student staff and general school emergencies and disruptions to the daily school day.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for supervision of an assigned number of after school events and performances and ensuring that events are appropriately supervised by additional staff. Attendance is also required at New Student & Staff Orientation Prom and Graduation.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations the High School Co-Principal aids in safety and security of students staff families and community in the building and surrounding area which may include accounting for key fobs and access to the building.

Section 2: Communication

  • High School Co-Principal will regularly and effectively communicate with staff through multiple avenues that include but are not limited to staff meetings one-on-one conversations and email to ensure that the needs of students staff and the school are being met.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for communicating and working collaboratively with parents students and staff to resolve issues and concerns in a manner that supports students and ensures the integrity of the school.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for consistent communication with parents/caregivers regarding student-centered needs individual plans ACPA programs procedures and logistics. These messages include but are not limited to: transportation summer school failure of a class summer reading and community and extracurricular activities.
  • High School Co-Principal is expected to organize and conduct grade-level meetings at least once per term that achieve the following:
    • Reinforcement of school values and habits
    • Recognition of student achievement and voice
    • Communicate important administrative information to the student body
  • High School Co-Principal will prepare and deliver a general report to the School Board at regular monthly board meetings.

Section 3: Student Information Systems/ Scheduling

  • High School Co-Principal will utilize the student information system as a management tool for overall school administration including but not limited to: running reports updating student records conducting searches and overseeing the student information system in relation to grades GPAs transcripts credits and progress toward graduation.
  • High School Co-Principal will lead the process of creating a master schedule that takes into account staff and departmental course offerings overall school operations ACPA mission and vision and student requirements including but not limited to graduation requirements.
  • High School Co-Principal will lead the process of creating individual student schedules as well as oversee the process of scheduling students as they enroll throughout the year. The process includes but is not limited to the following factors: student credits in relation to graduation requirements honors diploma requirements maintaining balanced class size translating previous transcripts with consideration for course sequence and credit types.

Section 4: Evaluation and Professional Development

  • High School Co-Principal is expected to conduct OTES and Counselor evaluations as defined by the state of Ohio for an assigned cohort of teachers; High School Co-Principal is expected to develop a system of evaluation for intervention and student support staff.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for conducting informal classroom walkthroughs and for providing feedback to teachers when appropriate based on walkthroughs.
  • High School Co-Principals are expected to hold either the 5 year professional Principal licensure or Alternative Principal Licensure meet advancement licensure renewal requirements including engaging in relevant professional development and participation in required mentor programs when applicable.
  • High School Co-Principal is required to participate in the OPES evaluation system and/or District Evaluation framework.
  • High School Co-Principal is expected to collaborate with the administrative team LPDC and staff to conduct assessments to determine needs and provide necessary support and professional development to foster alignment with District Mission Vision and Values

Section 5: Collaboration

  • High School Co-Principal will collaborate with the counseling intervention and student support departments through regular team meetings focused on student academic social emotional and community needs including but not limited to grades transcripts graduation requirements college and career readiness overall school culture and climate and individual student needs and interventions.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for oversight of the College Credit Plus and Credit Flexibility programs by working with coordinators school counselors student support staff and students participating in the programs in order to ensure that ACPA is following appropriate state policies and accommodating student needs.
  • High School Co-Principal is responsible for working in collaboration with the Intervention Department and classroom teachers to ensure that accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans are being implemented appropriately.
  • High School Co-Principal will work in collaboration with the Superintendent Administration Team and the Local Professional Development Committee to identify needs of the broader staff and meet those needs through relevant professional development.
