Job Description

The Team:

The Central Sustainability Office (CSO) of M&G plc works closely with asset management asset owner and corporate sustainability teams to deliver targeted Sustainability outcomes for the Group. This role reports to the Group Head of Sustainability Strategy and supports the implementation of thematic aspects of the Group Sustainability Strategy. This role is an opportunity to bring your social sustainability skills into M&G where you will play a key role in delivering our Group Sustainability Strategy.

The Role:

The Sustainability Analyst will have a particular focus on the Resilient Societies pillar of our Group Sustainability Strategy and help identify and enable actions across key areas such as promoting Financial Confidence Building Resilient Communities (e.g .affordable housing and regional development) as well as social impacts of climate change and transition to net zero.

The Sustainability Analyst will conduct research synthesise findings and provide guidance on regulatory trends peer best practices and industry initiatives related to sustainability topics. They will also contribute credible ideas that are suitable for M&G to advance on the pillar develop research papers position statements and topic briefs and support knowledge-sharing webinars. The role will also assist on administrative tasks related to chairing group-wide working groups and committees. This is a unique opportunity for an aspiring Sustainability professional to play a key part in supporting M&G achieve its ambitious sustainability vision and work closely with and learn from senior subject-matter experts.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • Conduct and effectively summarize research on the aforesaid social themes including relevant frameworks trends regulation industry initiatives and peer best practices related to financial services.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and input into key Group initiatives drawing on data-driven insights leading frameworks thought leadership and knowledge of financial products.

  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders across M&G including both the asset owner and asset management businesses to develop and mobilise initiatives advancing our Resilient Societies pillar.

  • Support the development of M&G capabilities in societal impact areas by sharing knowledge and subject matter expertise across the organisation.

  • Translating emerging and existing external regulatory voluntary or obligatory industry requirements and assessing impact on M&Gs business and focus areas.

  • Support the Group Thematic Leads with identifying collaborative opportunities and engaging with industry initiatives NGOs Think Tanks research institutions and policy makers.

  • Develop content to showcase Thought Leadership on specific topics.

  • Support the Group Head of Sustainability Strategy and Resilient Societies Thematic Lead in chairing group-wide working groups and committees by preparing agendas taking minutes and tracking actions towards completion.

  • Be a part of a high-performing team embracing innovation to ensure effectiveness efficiency agility and pace.

Key Knowledge Skills & Experience:

  • 3 years of experience within sustainability and preferably at a financial institution.

  • Technical knowledge of sustainability particularly social topics like financial inclusion community resilience affordable housing social impacts of climate change and just transition.

  • Experience within financial services industry including understanding of key initiatives and regulation affecting financial services in the UK and the EU (e.g. SFDR SDR CSRD CSDDD).

  • Proven ability to conduct research generate ideas synthesize material and have excellent writing skills.

  • Good project management skills and ability to navigate a fast-paced environment work independently and juggle multiple tasks.

  • Self-starter with a proactive and collaborative approach who is able to effectively engage with key stakeholders across the group.

  • Organised and thorough with high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent office skills and practical experience of Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Degree in a relevant subject would be an advantage.
