This role requires full time on site presence.

This is a full time temporary position that ends on approximately August 20 2026.

CBC North is looking for a senior producer of digital content to lead a team of online journalists and program news and information on several platforms.

This position is based in Yellowknife.

Reporting to the Managing Editor of CBC in the Northwest Territories (NWT) the successful candidate will actively participate in the news agenda and ensure the quick and accurate delivery of breaking news to CBCs digital platforms including and our social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • You must be an advocate for our online and digital platforms in each of our newsrooms in Nunavut NWT and Yukon. You bring to the role experience and knowledge of digital news social media strategies metrics and new story treatments.

  • You oversee all aspects of our website to make sure our stories are fair accurate and timely. You also make sure there is a balance of news between the regions our website covers.

  • You assign your web staffto the top stories in the North each day and stay on top of any breaking news.

  • You write vet and copy-edit as needed.

  • You work closely with reporters to develop them as writers and ensure their stories meet digital standards.

  • You work closely with our journalists and producers in TV and radio and play a key role in the digital rollout of big editorial projects investigations and events such as elections and territorial budgets.

  • You manage our social media presence with the help of our social media editor.

  • You manage the rollout of our streaming channel with the help of our social media editor.

  • You track our results and share our daily successes with the CBC North news team.

  • You respond to typo reports and public feedback and handle clarifications and corrections.

  • You co-produce a pilot program with Radio-Canada to translate stories in French and English.

  • You assign the weekend web person and oversee the North pan-territorial reporter in collaboration with each newsrooms executive producer.

As senior producer of digital content you will bring the following skills and experience to the CBC:

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a post-secondary education and 5 years of relevant experience 3 of which are in a digital news environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism including CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP).

  • Experience and knowledge of Indigenous languages would be an asset.

  • Strong journalistic skills.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Substantial experience writing copy editing fact-checking and packaging digital content.

  • Substantial experience in search engine optimization and social media optimization.

  • Ability to assign manage and motivate staff co-ordinate with other departments in a productive manner and mediate disputes as they arise.

  • Ability to coach staff on digital skills such as web writing photography and social media.

  • Excellent general knowledge about territorial and civic politics geography history and current issues related to the North.

  • Experience and proven ability to package online news stories in compelling and innovative ways.

  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.

  • Ability to manage news and feature lineups in line with CBC News and audience values.

  • Knowledge of user-generated content and social media techniques and policies.

  • Excellent online news judgment and ability to work effectively under 24/7 online newsroom deadline pressure.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong team player.

Skills:

  • Use of content management systems such as Polopoly Expression Engine and 9CMS as well as systems such as Dalet Media Central and iNews would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of Canadian Press and CBC style would be an asset.

  • Basic HTML/CSS.

  • Basic image editing skills.

  • Basic video editing skills.

  • Experience in radio and television platforms.
