Position Title: Athletic Director

General Description
The Athletic Director is responsible for the entire extra-curricular athletics program. The Director will work with all internal and external stakeholders - this includes students (prospective and current) families community members coaches game officials staff and faculty. The Director acts as the designee of the Principal and therefore needs to inform the Principal of all issues related to athletics at the school.
The position is an important one given the visibility of athletics and the role sports play in providing students with opportunities to grow not only in mind and heart but also in body. The tasks of the position range from: hiring coaches scheduling contests developing and managing the athletic budget to communicating with various constituencies of the school and athletic leagues in the community.
The Director is also expected to track performance metrics suggest and support strategic participation initiatives and create revenue-generating opportunities (such as sponsorships concessions athletic apparel sales etc.) to help increase the athletic offerings available to the student as well as all other tasks and responsibilities as required.
Serves as the liaison with Catholic League MHSAA other associates coaches athletes parents faculty and administration and completes all official reports. Liaison to Student Enrichment Coordinator / LT Enrichment Opportunities
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Develop and cultivate Detroit Cristo Reys Athletic Department through strategies and plans to promote continuous improvement.
- Coordinate all athletic events.
- Create game schedules for multiple teams and practice schedules for facilities usage
- Creates yearly budget for Athletic Department in coordination with Financial Department and maintains accurate records of all receipts and expenditures as required by school policy including equipment and uniform purchases/inventory
- Establish clear benchmarks for performance with all coaches and monitor their individual and team progress.
- Responsible to interview and hire all head coaches/assistant coaches
- Coordinate all end of season award banquets
- Secure donations for uniforms sports equipment and weight room equipment.
- Coordinate transportation for all away contests
- Assure officials are paid for all athletic events
- Responsible for implementing ineligibility reports to the Principal
- Club Coordinator/After School Activities
- Admission Outreach (Shadow Days; School Visits/Tours/Parades

Responsibilities
- Athletics Program Budget and Ticket Management
- Responsible for creating and managing a budget for the department in conjunction with the Finance Department
- Maintain accurate records of all receipts and expenditures as required by school policy
- Establish and maintain a rotation for the purchase of uniforms and equipment
- Responsible for ordering inventory and use of tickets for all home varsity athletic events
- Responsible for reporting attendance and ticket proceeds upon deposit of the gate monies with the Business Office
- Provide seasonal reports on attendance at home contests to Principal and Business Office
- Banquet and Awards
- Responsible for ordering and storage of athletics awards
- Responsible for setting dates arranging food and set up of the banquet in conjunction with coaches and parents
- Coaches
- Responsible for hiring of coaches-in conjunction with HR and per the hiring policy
- Coordinates the hiring of assistant coaches with head coaches-in conjunction with HR
- Conducts a post-season review/evaluation with each coach and provides to HR
- Encourages and expects coaches to keep current in their respective sports through attendance at clinics events etc
- Communication
- Communicates with parents relative to concerns regarding any athletics issue
- Facilitates preseason meetings with parents players and coaches relative to the schools mission expectations policies procedures etc.
- Distributes seasonal sports schedules
- Acts as the spokesperson with the media as needed on various issues concerning athletics
- Acts as liaison with the Catholic League MHSAA other associations coaches athletes parents faculty and administration
- Gives reports to constituencies (alumni council fathers club etc.) as needed
- Provides a quarterly report on the status of the athletics program to the Principal for presentation to the schools board of directors
- Attends parent-teacher conferences welcome nights and other related functions
- Contracts
- Responsible for contracting for contests with opposing schools officials for contests and facilities when necessary
- Eligibility
- Responsible for implementing the Academic Ineligibility policy with affected athletes based on the list supplied by the Principal
- Evaluation
- Involve the staff in ongoing evaluation to ensure the best possible programs for students at all levels in each sport
- Review the strengths and weaknesses of each sport at the end of the sports season; discusses findings and make improvement recommendations to the principal
- Facilities
- Responsible for the usage of gymnasium including making provisions for the supervision of students during hours outside of the school day
- Work with the Facilities Director to assure that all fields courts and locker rooms are clean maintained and ready for use
- Responsible with the approval of the Principal and Director of Administration for coordinating the rental of athletics facilities to external public.
- Medical Safety and Security
- Coordinate the proper policies and procedures for athlete physicals
- Responsible for development implementation and adherence to medical policy
- Responsible for securing a trainer when necessary
- Responsible for securing other medical help at contests when necessary
- Ensures the proper use of weights by students
- Works with the Business Office to ensure security coverage for all games and events when deemed appropriate
- Policy
- Responsible for following the policies of Detroit Cristo Rey High School the Catholic League other associations and the MHSAA
- Responsible for ensuring all members of the Athletics Department adhere to the policies of the school the Catholic League other associations and the MHSAA
- Attend meetings of these organizations to ensure the school is involved and kept current on new rules policies etc
- Presence
- Responsible for attending as many contests in all sports as possible.
- Responsible to assigns a representative to be present at home athletic contests not able to personally attend
- Works with the Dean of Students to plan special events such as pep assemblies and Spirit Week to encourage student participation in athletics
- Schedules and Programs
- Responsible for coordinating the development of sports programs including the coordination of the collection of material for publication and distribution of the programs
- Responsible for coordinating the schedule for the various sports in conjunction with head coaches and in consultation with the Principal (in order to avoid conflicts with the academic calendar of the school).
- Summer Camps
- Arranges dates for summer sports camps
- Coordinates the PR for camps
- Compiles and keeps accurate records of campers and monies paid
- Notifies coaches of camper numbers
