Pay Grade: 23 $55556.80 to $75753.60 (includes $0.85 stipend)

CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:

Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. Through the Maine Model of Corrections we promote the safety of our staff and residents while reducing barriers to meaningful rehabilitative opportunities. We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release including treatment education and job training.

MDOC Juvenile Community Corrections Region 2 is seeking qualified candidates for Juvenile Community Corrections Officer in Auburn Maine. You must be self-motivated resourceful able to work as an integral part of a team and possess excellent time management analytical and interpersonal skills.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

  • Investigates juvenile delinquency cases and matters concerning probation and/or aftercare using evidence-based principles and practices to report findings.
  • Researches and writes institutional and court ordered investigation reports to present information needed for making case decisions.
  • Researches and completes pre-disposition post-disposition aftercare furlough and interstate compact investigations to provide information.
  • Compiles and records information on juvenile offenders and their activities in order monitor and document compliance with conditions of supervision.
  • Prepares and maintains strength-based juvenile offender rehabilitation case plans and records and submits regular and special reports to superiors and the courts to carry out required procedures to intervene and remediate delinquent behavior.
  • Monitors reviews and revises individual rehabilitation case plans and refers them to appropriate education employment community and treatment programs/resources to promote their rehabilitation and mitigate identified criminogenic factors.
  • Inform juvenile offenders of conditions of supervision to ensure they are understood.
  • Make prescribed contact and counsel juvenile offenders to assist with rehabilitation.
  • Arrests and transports juvenile offenders to jails detention facilities institutions and hearings to enforce conditions of supervision.
  • Arranges and monitors for community/public service work collects restitution and fines and monitors disbursement of funds to enforce conditions of supervision.
  • Collaborates with community agencies and service providers to develop and monitor individual treatment and supervision plans and expand and enhance service delivery system for juvenile offenders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Behavior Sciences or Social Sciences or a closely related field (4 years).
    -AND-
  • Six (6) months of experience in youth counseling and case management or juvenile probation/parole work or juvenile law enforcement activities.

-OR in lieu of a Bachelors Degree-

  • At least 4 years and 6 months of equivalent combination of directly related education experience and training.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience working with adolescents and families involved with the juvenile justice system.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a Class C Maine Drivers License.
