Sony Pictures Imageworks is seeking an Intermediate Maya Engineer to join our team in our Vancouver Location

Job Summary:

We are looking for a passionate Engineer to support our Modeling Layout Rigging and Animation pipelines using Maya. Maya is one of our core DCCs so the quality of the product itself and the tools we build for Maya is top priority for us. This position is central to managing the quality of the Maya environment we offer to our artists and developers.

The ideal candidate is a strong coder investigator & communicator who is looking to collaborate with other engineers and artists on tasks and projects of varying sizes with an emphasis on meeting the needs of productions with time-sensitive deadlines. Ideally candidates have developed Maya plugins and understand its core principles and design. They must be at ease working with little supervision and in an environment where production demands can shift priorities quickly.

What Youll Do:

  • Review incoming Maya issues from Modeling Layout Rigging and Animation teams.
  • Work with Maya artists pipeline teams engineering teams & Autodesk engineers to:
    • Triage issues collect information to try and get to the source of the problem.
    • Understand artist workflows to recreate issues/bugs and prepare test cases.
    • Resolve Maya issues bugs and work on new features requests.
    • Analyze common and chronic issues.
    • Assess needs propose recommendations and produce elegant solutions.
    • Help with testing code review and quality analysis.
  • Continue development and support of proprietary plugins.
  • Develop test suites and frameworks for Maya and Maya plugins we develop.
  • Write clean efficient and well-documented code.
  • Troubleshoot and debug technical issues.

What You Bring:

  • A bachelors degree in computer science computer engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in Software or related engineering position.
  • Experience with MEL Maya API and Maya plugins.
  • Experience with developing custom plugins for Maya.
  • Experience with Python and PyQt/PySide.
  • Experience working with Linux.
  • Experience working in VFX and CG Animation studios is preferable.
  • Knowledge of C Unreal Engine and USD is preferable.
  • A strategic approach to problem-solving: You dont just patch problems; you solve them so that they never happen again.
  • The ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with test-driven development workflows.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
