Job Description

Note: Initial training period will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday with overtime as needed. After successful completion of the training the regular hours will be Monday – Friday 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with overtime as needed.

SUMMARY Before a lens is polished it must first be shaped (generated) to the approximate finished curvature. The generating technician performs this operation using a special diamond milling machine designed for the purpose. Technician sets-up machine loads and unloads parts and uses precision gauges to ensure that finished parts conform to specifications. This job is somewhat technical and requires attention to detail. Generating Technician I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee. Generating Technician II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision. QUALIFICATIONS The following requirements are representative of the knowledge skill and ability required to perform this job successfully. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and punctual attendance is required Overtime hours may be required if needed Safety: Hazardous materials escape routes proper apparel General flow of parts through plant Quality Policy and other general quality issues Proper handling of optics Understanding and use of pertinent work instructions and procedures Scanning parts Identification and routing of parts Measuring instruments - use and care Disposition of non-conforming parts General Operations of the following machines: R&C WB-15 WB-25 Pell Grinding - Small R&C EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. An understanding of simple geometry and mechanics is very useful. REASONING ABILITY Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is generally standing at a machine using hands to handle tooling. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be able to see up close in order to check quality of work. This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because a person working in this position under the influence of or alcohol including medical may constitute a threat to health or safety which includes but is not limited to working with hazardous or flammable materials operating repairing maintaining or monitoring machinery or motor vehicles. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud ear protection is required in this area.
