SUMMARY The CNC technician operates computer-controlled machines fitted with rotating spindles that hold lenses. Using a combination of tooling liquid abrasive and coolant the technician shapes the lenses to a specified radius and thickness. The technician sets up machines loads/unloads lenses monitors machine operation adjusts machine settings and uses precision gauges to check finished lenses ensuring they conform to customer specifications. The technician may run one or several machines simultaneously depending on job complexity production schedules and/or available personnel. CNC Technician I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee. CNC Technician II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily after completing the initial training. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and punctual attendance is required Overtime hours may be required if needed General understanding of the flow of parts Bar coding to record flow of parts Set up and shut down of CNC machines for each job Work under moderate supervision Understanding and use of work instructions Adjust machines to produce parts according to specifications Use test equipment such as micrometers dial indicators and calipers Set up and operate interferometers Proper cleaning of equipment daily Other responsibilities may include: Routine maintenance of machine pre-mixing polishing compounds; and preparation and maintenance of polishing tools and beveling of parts. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. COMPUTER SKILLS Basic computer skills are beneficial. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.
