We are currently recruiting for the following independent positions:
Chairperson
You will lead the G-HREC in its ethical review processes guiding discussions with impartiality insight and authority.
Essential Criteria:
- Prior experience serving on an NHMRC-registered HREC.
- Strong leadership communication and consensus-building skills.
- Knowledge of ethical frameworks related to human research ideally in reproductive medicine.
Lay Person (Female)
We seek a female lay member with no affiliation to Genea and no current professional involvement in medical legal academic or scientific work.
Essential Criteria:
- A genuine interest in ethical issues affecting human research.
- Ability to reflect community perspectives and advocate for participant protection.
- Willingness to engage with complex ethical topics particularly in reproductive health.
Independent Lawyer
You will provide legal insights ensuring the committee upholds relevant legislation and ethical principles.
Essential Criteria:
- A qualified lawyer preferably not engaged by Genea for research-related legal matters.
- Understanding of health privacy or human rights law (beneficial but not essential).
- Ability to critically assess consent procedures risk mitigation and regulatory compliance.
Researcher
We are seeking researchers with current experience in reproductive biology genetics embryology or closely related fields.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience in conducting or reviewing human research.
- Strong understanding of ethical issues in scientific or clinical reproductive research.
- Ability to evaluate research protocols with scientific rigor and ethical sensitivity.

Committee Responsibilities
As a member of the G-HREC you will:
- Conduct independent reviews of research proposals and ethical case assessments.
- Evaluate informed consent processes risks and participant protections.
- Review amendments and monitor ongoing research.
- Contribute to the ethical oversight of the Authorised Prescriber Scheme proposals.
- Attend a minimum of two meetings per year (virtual or in-person).
All members are indemnified under Geneas insurance and supported by a dedicated secretariat.
