Job Description

TITLE: COLLEGE AND CAREER FAFSA ADVISOR

SALARY RANGE: $47547-$102907 (experienced based salary protection available)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The College and Career FAFSA Advisor will be responsible for implementing and managing the districts Universal FAFSA Challenge initiatives. This position will support students families and educators in increasing FAFSA completion rates. The College and Career FAFSA Advisor will work collaboratively with Midland Career and College Area Network (MCCAN) advisors school counselors administrators and community organizations to develop outreach strategies provide guidance on financial aid applications and track FAFSA completion data.

The College and Career FAFSA Advisor will ensure that FAFSA completion efforts are directly connected to each students Educational Development Plan (EDP). By using the EDP as a guiding tool the College and Career FAFSA Advisor will help tailor financial aid support to students postsecondary goals and ensure that FAFSA completion aligns with their individualized career and education pathways.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

As per the current Midland City Education Association (MCEA) Agreement.

This is a grant funded position. This position is a non-administrative district level position staffed during the regular staffing process. The specific assignment is determined annually and ongoing renewal is based on funding availability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in education and a valid state of Michigan teacher license (School Counseling Certification).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and families.
  • Proficiency in data management and tracking systems.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Previous work in a school environment.
  • Experience in school counseling or postsecondary advising.
  • Experience in college advising financial aid or student services.
  • Knowledge of FAFSA financial aid processes and state/federal student aid programs.
  • Familiarity with Michigans FAFSA policies and MiLEAP initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

FAFSA Implementation & Compliance

  • Oversee the districts Universal FAFSA Challenge efforts.
  • Ensure all seniors complete the FAFSA or an exemption waiver as part of the graduation requirement in accordance with a students EDP.
  • Assist school counselors and staff in integrating FAFSA completion strategies into existing college and career readiness programs in accordance with a students EDP.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Student & Family Support

  • Provide direct support to students and families in completing the FAFSA including one-on-one assistance and workshops.
  • Address barriers to FAFSA completion such as documentation issues or dependency overrides.
  • Organize Guest Speakers for presentation(s) on college preparedness.
  • Conduct outreach to families to increase awareness of FAFSA and other financial aid opportunities including the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
  • Support Early Middle College with completion of FAFSA EDP and College Pathways.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Data Tracking & Reporting

  • Monitor FAFSA completion rates and track student progress in collaboration with school counselors.
  • Submit required district reports on FAFSA completion exemptions and program effectiveness to MiLEAP.
  • Analyze data to identify trends challenges and areas for improvement in FAFSA completion efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Community & School Partnerships

  • Collaborate with colleges financial aid offices and community organizations to provide FAFSA-related resources and events.
  • Plan and facilitate FAFSA nights information sessions and financial aid workshops.
  • Work with local businesses and organizations to provide FAFSA completion incentives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Build the capacity of school counselors through training collaboration and data-driven support to ensure that every student completes the FAFSA prior to graduation aligning efforts with state and district postsecondary access goals.
  • Work collaboratively with and provide guidance to MCCAN Advisors ensuring alignment with district goals effective implementation of college and career readiness initiatives and consistent communication and support for student postsecondary planning and success.
  • Other duties as assigned.
