Graduate Medical Education (GME) is defined asthe period of didactic and clinical education in a medical specialty subspecialty or sub-subspecialty that follows completion of undergraduate medical education (i.e. medical school) and that prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in that specialty subspecialty or sub-subspecialty. Also referred to as residency or fellowship education.
At UAB Hospital the GMEOfficeis the administrative office that manages and oversees all activities as it relates to ACGME-accredited training programs and residents/fellows enrolled in these programs. At UAB Hospital we have 100 programs and 1200 residents/fellows.
GME operations include institutional and program accreditation finance compliance and onboarding activities.

Job Description:
1. Manages the institutional ACGME Accreditation Database. Monitors ACGME accreditation requirements and reviewing data from all programs. Maintains up-to-date information in the separate GME institutional-wide software (MedHub).
2. Prepares reports and plans GME Oversight Committees monthly meeting agenda and activities ensuring compliance with ACGME Institutional and Common Program Requirements. Coordinates all follow-up actions items as determined by the DIO and Committee.
3. Using accreditation data received from programs analyzes data produces dashboards and determines when quality improvement activities related to Special Review and Progress Reports are needed. Coordinates entire process from assembling review team to completing the report with recommended action plans. Compiles feedback to the programs and monitors action items.
4. Provides education and serves as consultant to Program Directors and Program Coordinators on ACGME requirements and GME related processes.
5. At the institutional level reviews work hour data for residents/fellows on a quarterly basis produces summary reports for DIO and Oversight Committee review. Coordinates progress reports on corrective actions as needed.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
