Student Services Advisor & Indigenous Support - Lunenburg Campus

What you will be doing

• You will help students make decisions solve problems and meet goals that maximize their college experience.
• You will work to engage and support a caseload of students - including prospective transitioning-in current and transitioning-out students.
• You will provide culturally relevant services and supports for Indigenous students and supporting other Student Services staff in developing awareness and skills in working with students in a culturally inclusive environment.
• You will plan and deliver events activities and interactions which support student growth engagement and leadership.

You will advise students in areas of Accessibility Career Enrolment Finance Learning Student Life and Wellness.

This position is housed at the Lunenburg Campus but provides ongoing supports to the Southwest Region including the Burridge and Shelburne Campuses and Digby Learning Centre - travel between locations will be required.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

• The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree. A degree focused on Student Affairs Indigenous Studies Adult Education Education or the Social Sciences would be considered an asset.
• You have a minimum of three years (full time equivalent) of recent and relevant occupational experience in student services or supporting adults in personal academic and/or career development and service delivery in Indigenous or First Nations settings.
• Occupational experience that includes front-facing customer service event planning or conflict resolution would be considered a valuable asset.
• Being proficient using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail and PeopleSoft or other databases would be an asset.
• You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
• You have experience in training/facilitation preparation workshop delivery and evaluation
• You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge:

• You possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to interact with a diversity of people and support resolution of issues.

• You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in workshop facilitation and/or teaching. Demonstrated financial management skills would be an asset.

• You are a strong communicator.
• You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to bringing people together coordinating and navigating services.
• You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to tact and confidentiality. You support students but you are not their advocate.
• You have strong project management skills including event planning and workshop delivery
• You show a strong commitment to community involvement such as volunteering or participation in community events or activities.

As a condition of employment Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary full or part-time Professional Support of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
