The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) maintains office directors in each of its regional offices. The State is now recruiting for one of these vacancies for the Northern Maine Regional Office in Presque Isle.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Regional Office Director plans directs and oversees DEP programs at the regional level to ensure that statewide goals are met consistent with regional needs and the agencys mission and priorities. The director ensures that regional offices are structured and managed in a manner that maximizes DEPs ability to meet its goals and ensures that policies are implemented at the point of service delivery. The director advocates within the ranks of DEPs senior managers for policy modifications based on conditions they observe in their region and serves as a liaison to local community leaders. This is an executive position reporting directly to the Commissioner.

There will be some remote work opportunities with this position that follow the DEP Telework Policy and after management approval.

The tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that State law agency guidance and procedures and administration initiatives are implemented in the region consistent with senior management directions.
  • Providing a senior management level point of contact for businesses legislators organizations and individuals to resolve concerns and maintain effective relationships.
  • Coordinating with distant supervisors and program managers to oversee day-to-day activities of regional staff.
  • Representing DEP in regional meetings stakeholder groups or projects.
  • Managing resources to maintain physical facilities and ensure adequate support for regional staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A twelve (12) year combination of education training and/or professional level experience in environmental science or policy.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience applying Maines environmental laws and regulations supervising employees facilitating stakeholder groups and resolving complaints.
