JOB SUMMARY:
This role within Mount Vernon School District is dedicated to serving our diverse population of multilingual learners. With a primary focus on instruction followed by program management and compliance this position plays a pivotal role in fostering an assets-based culture throughout the district. Operating outside of the general education classroom this role offers supplementary support to multilingual learners in various capacities. As a teacher leadership role active involvement on a variety of teams is required serving as an advocate and language acquisition expert. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with EL or BE endorsement required
- Demonstrated instructional experience including:
- Effective use of a wide variety of instructional methods and strategies skills to support learners with varying needs.
- Application of current research in elementary education literacy instruction Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Understanding by Design (UbD) and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT).
- Effective use of data for decision-making and instructional purposes
- Preferred: Bilingual.
- Preferred: Experience with economically culturally and linguistically diverse students.
- Preferred: Additional endorsements in Special Education and/or reading.
REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate multilingual education program (TBIP) for assigned building(s) including:
- Organizing all required and supplemental language proficiency testing (g. WIDA Screener WIDA ACCESS WIDA MODEL) within specified timelines.
- Collaborating with front office staff for accurate student identification program placement and data entry.
- Preparing analyzing and sharing clear and concise reports on student and program data to:
- Support continuous improvement efforts of the Building Leadership Team.
- Guide interventions for MLs.
- Monitor student progress within and after exiting from TBIP.
- Make programmatic and instructional decisions tailored to student needs.
- Conducting regular professional development sessions for staff covering topics such as:
- Language acquisition.
- Literacy instruction for MLs.
- Culturally and linguistically responsive instruction.
- Student data for instructional purposes.
- Unit design centered on content and language standards.
- Direct the work of assigned classified staff when applicable.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal and State grant requirements as well as District program requirements
- Oversee assigned English Language Development (ELD) instruction and meaningful access to standards-based grade-level content by:
- Implementing researched-based instructional strategies including co-planning co-teaching within the Tier 1 setting.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to assess student instructional needs and plan ELD instruction aligned with state standards.
- Providing or planning ELD instruction for students requiring additional support such as newcomers students of concern or those at risk of Long Term English Learner (LTEL) status.
- Coordinating with special education teachers to create execute and monitor dual service plans for TBIP students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate actively on various teams including:
- Building Leadership Team membership.
- Attendance and engagement in all Multilingual Department meetings.
- Contribution to scheduling and preparation for monthly building ML meetings.
- Involvement in district and building equity initiatives.
- Maintain professionalism and a learner stance by:
- Attending all relevant professional development and training opportunities to accomplish the objectives of the position.
- Complying with supervision and evaluation procedures.
- Complying with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintaining consistent attendance and conforming to regular work hours specified under contract.
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Mount Vernon School District employees are eligible for SEBB medical dental vision life insurance AD&D and long-term disability (LTD) coverage if they are anticipated to work 630 hours or more during the school year. Eligibility for retirement benefits applies to employees working 3.5 hours per day or more for five or more consecutive months.
We also offer optional tax-sheltered annuities including the Omni 403(b) and the Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave vacation leave (for 260-day employees only) and sick leave are prorated based on full-time employment status.
