    Compensation
    Salary Range: $25.49/hour - $34.14/hour (New employees to the District no higher than Step 6 $32.52)
    *Based on the 2025-26 Classified Salary Schedule

    Position Description
    The Library Technician under direction of the site administrator and Associate Superintendent of Instruction provides library services in an assigned school library/media center.

    Education/Experience
    High school diploma or equivalent including or supplemented by two years of college-level course work and knowledge of or experience with library procedures.

    Skills/Abilities
    Provide comprehensive library services at an elementary school site
    Assist students and staff with research and special projects
    Learn technical aspects of operation of a school library; i.e. acquisition cataloging classification and circulation of materials
    Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer
    Catalog and process a variety of library and media materials
    Maintain records and files using alpha and numeric systems
    Work independently with limited supervision
    Meet schedules and timelines
    Apply and explain library rules regulations and policies
    Understand and follow verbal and written directions
    Communicate and write effectively
    Maintain cooperative working relationships
    Comply with the physical/mental demands as described on the ADA profile

    Knowledge
    Of Dewey Decimal classification system
    Of basic library practices procedures and terminology
    Of library reference materials and sources
    Of correct English usage vocabulary spelling grammar and punctuation

    Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
    Operates and maintains a functional library/multimedia/resource center
    Prepares materials for library instruction
    Maintains card files and on-line catalog in an orderly and accurate condition
    Trains and supervises student library assistants and parent volunteers
    Supervises students using the library
    Coordinates library activities in accordance with class schedules and school programs
    Promotes student use of the library for research and reading pleasure
    Assists students/teachers in the selection of instructional and enrichment materials and media
    Selects and reads books aloud to classes and provides literature enrichment activities
    Arranges displays of student work library displays and bulletin boards
    Maintains a clean and orderly library/multimedia environment
    Communicates with teachers as to curriculum needs searching vendor catalogs for selection of materials aligned with state frameworks
    Checks library materials in and out putting groups of books in reserve for specific classes; keeps periodicals and books in order
    Compiles and distributes monthly lists of overdue books to staff and supervises volunteers who assist in this work
    Inventories and orders library books and supplies as needed keeping within budgets
    Processes and coordinates multimedia materials usage and maintains inventory and supplies
    Processes incoming textbooks; keeps file of all textbooks received and their location; checks textbooks in and out and completes textbook room inventory; periodically inventories each classroom for discarded obsolete and district purchased texts and completes follow up work as required
    Sends out notices for lost or damaged textbooks and receives payment from students
    Repairs and mend books as needed and discards damaged and outdated materials
    Participates in in-service training programs and workshops
    Performs other related duties as assigned

    ADA Profile
    Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to sit bend kneel perform grasping and handling motions and torso rotations on a continuous basis lift carry or move up to 25 lbs. ability to reach in all directions; adequate sight or corrected vision to read printed directions or instructions; hear and speak to communicate with co-workers students and the public; dexterity of the hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
