Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Taxations Office of Compliance is seeking professional Tax Auditors for their Revenue Analysis and Planning Unit. As an Auditor you will review incoming tax returns for accuracy and compliance with state tax laws to prevent fraud. You will be expected to complete simple and complex tax audits on business entities and individuals using applicable auditing standards and procedures to ensure compliance with Virginia and federal tax laws. You will participate as a team member within the Office of Compliance to ensure the Agencys culture values and vision are maintained.
As a Tax Auditor you will:
Independently conduct and effectively finalize both simple and complex desk audits.
Respond to taxpayers and other customers in a timely and professional
manner.
Provide research and analysis for assigned tax issues and projects.
Prepare and submit all reports completely accurately and timely.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located in our Central Office in downtown Richmond Virginia.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule once fully trained. After training hybrid schedule is Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday in office and Monday and Friday telework.
The anticipated hiring range is up to $60000 commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of Virginia and federal tax laws forms schedules and filing procedures
Demonstrated ability to obtain information from one or more sources to reach a proper conclusion
Experience analyzing or auditing tax or financial records manual or system generated to determine proper tax liabilities
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using correct punctuation spelling and grammar in a concise and clear style
Ability to work independently and in a team environment to complete assigned tasks
Experience using a Windows-based computer and Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Considerations
Working knowledge of accounting and audit terminology techniques and formal theory of accounting
Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties and handle multiple tasks
Professional experience in preparing and/or reviewing individual income tax returns
