Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for an English Language Learner Teacher. Working under the direction of the school principal and the Supervisor of English Learners this position works with students in decision making interpersonal development and academic growth by providing the strategies resources and instruction to enable each student to meet the demands of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards and the WIDA English Language Development Standards.
DUTIES:
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to analyze benchmark and other data to determine areas of student need in reading and language usage.
- Assesses new entrants to determine eligibility for ELD and notifies Supervisor of new entrants.
- Maintains data and reports including enrollment information objectives and goals on students.
- Participates in S.S.T./I.E.P. meetings for caseload ELL students and provides designatedaccommodations in instruction and assessments for students.
- Co-plans with classroom teacher(s) to ensure reinforcement of objectives being taught in the regular classroom.
- Collaborates with other DCPS ELL teachers in developing lessons and use of new strategies.
- Provides periodic school-based staff professional development sessions about best-practice strategies for instruction of ELL students.
- Assumes the test examiner role during ACCESS for ELLs testing.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative procedures and board polices.
- Maintains a classroom environment that is safe orderly and conducive to effective learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students.
- Prepares and maintains lesson plans for classes assigned and shows written evidence ofpreparation upon request of supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with an endorsement in ESOL PreK-12.
- Possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in ESOL (preferred) or specific ELL coursework may be considered in place of a degree in ESOL.
- Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum techniques for integratingcurriculum Dorchester County Public Schools policies and effective instructional practices.
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-culturaleducation.
- Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with administrators colleagues centraloffice and school-based staff students parents and community.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
