Job Description
The School of Social Work and Human Service at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional lecturer to teach the following course in Fall 2025:
SOCW 3540 - Indigenous People and Human Services
In this course students critically examine the historical process of colonization in Canada the resulting barriers embedded in policy and practice and alternative ways of viewing the social-psychological position of Indigenous People in Canadian society. Contemporary issues and the movement toward self-determination are discussed in relation to social work theory and practice.
Requirements
- The minimum academic qualification is an earned Doctorate accompanied by a Masters degree in Social Work. A candidate who has accumulated experience judged to be particularly relevant to this position and valuable to the School of Social Work and Human Service may be appointed with a Masters degree in Social Work or a relevant Masters degree combined with an undergraduate credential in Social Work.
- Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions preferred
- Professional experience with families required
- Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
- Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63)
- Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
- Evidence of scholarly teaching experience at the post-secondary level involving Secwepemc content/material/world views is strongly preferred;
- Skills and experience in Secwepemc language(s) and culture(s) is required
