Job Description

High School EL Curriculum Guide Team (Summer 2025)

Description:

The Everett Public Schools (EPS) is seeking EL teachers from Everett High School to refine and adjust the 9-12 EL curriculum based on student performance data from years 1 and 2 of implementation. The EL Curriculum Team composed of nine (9) Everett High School EL Department members will collaborate with the department leaders to modify the curriculum maps and pacing guides to better meet student needs and improve outcomes.

The EL Curriculum Team will work thirty (30) hours dedicating their time to developing vertically aligned standards-based and culturally relevant curriculum expectations for the department. Each team member will represent a specific level of the team to ensure a comprehensive approach to curriculum development.

The EL Curriculum Team will adjust its calendar for common assessments by level using insights from student performance data to inform assessment design and content.

Teachers will work to align the curriculum maps assessments and unit tasks with the districts instructional focus on Webbs Depth of Knowledge and increasing rigor. The team will also key focus on ensuring that the curriculum promotes higher-order thinking skills and challenges students to achieve at higher DOK levels.

The team will report to the Director of English Learners Genevieve McDonough.

Working Time/Dates/Modality:

30 hours between July and August which will consist of synchronous in-person work time with the ESL level teams

Requirements:

  • Current assignment as an EL Teacher at Everett High School and/or Instructional Leader with experience in EL.
  • Knowledge of the English Language Arts and Literacy Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and WIDA Proficiency Standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rich and varied experience with literacy curriculum and instruction
  • Understanding of the language acquisition process and demands

Deliverables:

For each level the team will complete:

  • Revised EL curriculum maps aligned with student performance data and district instructional focus on Webbs Depth of Knowledge and increasing rigor.
  • Updated pacing guides that reflect adjustments based on student outcomes from year 1 of implementation.
  • Common rubrics are developed for all unit assessments and tasks to ensure consistency and fairness in evaluation.
  • Integration of IXL diagnostic assessments to inform curriculum adjustments and personalize instruction based on student needs.
  • Any other products deemed necessary by the EL Director or the team.

Remuneration: Up to $1200 stipend based on $40/ hr for 30 hours of time.
