Term Full-time Position: Commencing approximately August 1 2025 and ending approximately December 19 2025

The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on steps that range from $68917.73 - $91624.75. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $80254.49 annually (salary will be pro-rated based on 80%).

What you will be doing

You will be helping students make decisions solve problems and meet goals that maximize their college experience. You will work to engage and support a caseload of students - including prospective transitioning-in current and transitioning-out students. You will be planning and delivering events activities and interactions that support student growth engagement and leadership. You will be advising students in areas including Career Enrolment Finance Learning Student Life and Wellness.

For example you will:

  • Advise students on college policies resources available and extra-curricular options.
  • Assist students in planning how to meet financial commitments of college.
  • Deconstruct situations where students are in distress to plan appropriate supports and referrals including appropriate cultural supports accessibility services and counselling.
  • Support activities and events that prepare students for college and employment.
  • Provide guidance and support to students that empowers learners in a virtual learning environment along with support in accessing academic resources to help students succeed.
  • Collaborate with faculty and other departments to support a seamless educational experience.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions.
  • Help students to develop career management strategies to enable them to choose a program that is consistent with their interests skills values and employment goals.

You will be a member of campus and provincial Student Services and Advising teams which provide a continuum of integrated services and opportunities to students in-person online and in blended environments. You will initiate and build partnerships with Academic Chairs and Faculty to provide services tailored to the unique needs and opportunities of students and programs.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree. A degree with a major in Student Affairs Adult Education or Social Science would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of three years (full-time equivalent) of recent and relevant occupational experience in student services or supporting adults in personal academic and/or career development.
  • Occupational experience that includes providing support in a virtual environment would be considered a strong asset.
  • You are familiar in using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office and email. Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems such as PeopleSoft Records Management systems and Data Lifecycle Management systems would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace Audio/Visual platforms and texting would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience and employ Data Lifecycle Management practices.
  • You have experience in preparing delivering sharing and archiving webinars and presentations.
  • You have demonstrated event-planning experience.

As a condition of employment Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary full or part-time Professional Support of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
