POSITION SUMMARYThe Director of Finance is responsible for the overall administration of internal accounting and financial processes for both the Academy and SJA Foundation. He /she is responsible for safeguarding the Academy and SJA Foundation assets integrity and accuracy of financial reporting. He/she is responsible for developing financial plans that align with the long-term business objectives of both the Academy and SJA Foundation which include setting financial goals analyzing market trends and forecasting future revenue and expenses. He/she is responsible for compliance with contracts and employment law. He/she will supervise the Controller. He/she will meet regularly with the President and the Chair of the Finance Committee for review of responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWorks cooperatively and collaboratively with the President Principal the Finance Committee and the Foundation Board to coordinate the financial operating and historical information for the Academy and SJA Foundation.
Develops and maintains a manual of standard procedures relating to controls reporting and documentation of Academy and SJA Foundation accounting processes.
Analyzes and interprets financial reports and recommends changes to improve systems and financial performance.
Implements procedure changes approved by the President and policy changes as applicable by the Academy and SJA Foundation Board of Directors.
Oversees implementation of new software as needed.
Meets regularly with President Principal and Directors to assess future financial needs of the Academy.
Serves as an Ex Officio member of the Academy Finance Committee and SJA Foundation Board.
Oversee the preparation of the annual budget of the Academy and presents to the Finance Committee.
Works collaboratively with the external investment managers for the Academy and the SJA Foundation assuring funds are invested as cash needs arise and adherence to established investment policies
Collaborates with President and other directors in negotiation of third-party vendor contracts.
Monitors the financial operations of the contracted services of the dining hall by meeting on a regular basis with the contracted providers Regional Manager.
Serves as a member of the Tuition Assistance Committee
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelors degree in accounting finance or business administration; masters degree or CPA preferred
Minimum of 15 years experience in accounting finance or business administration preferably in an educational or non-profit environment
Experience in financial and strategic planning business growth and innovation and risk management
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams
Knowledge and understanding of non-profit accounting including endowments and tax regulations
Experience with grant reporting and grant management
Experience with federal funding requirements under Uniform Guidance
Experience with preparing and monitoring budgets
Demonstrated management and supervisory skills
Proficiency with financial software Microsoft Word and Excel and preferably Microsoft Dynamics
