Job Description

Job Summary:This position supervises student behavior in high school parking lots and other areas where students congregate before during and after school; manages vehicle registration for student parking on campus; and shares the responsibility for campus safety and security for students and staff with support from administrators other school staff and NSD District Safety and Security Staff or designees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from school-to-school based on the employee(s) specific assignment.

  1. Supervise and monitor student/visitor use of parking areas on school property; distribute student staff and visitor parking passes on an on-going basis; maintain vehicle registration information and enforce parking violations as determined by building administrators.
  1. Issue citations (parking violations) to illegally parked or unauthorized vehicles contact the DMV to identify unauthorized vehicles; assist in investigations of accidents on school grounds.
  1. Monitor student truancy and compliance with campus rules and policies redirect students escort students to the office for discipline as necessary.
  1. Develop a positive rapport with students act as a role model converse with students answer questions and intervene to help students when appropriate. Deescalate situations involving angry students when necessary.
  1. Supervise students in all areas of the campus especially in high traffic areas (bathrooms lunchroom hallways) and during passing periods Nutrition Breaks and Lunches in-school suspension and/or detention as well as during class times.
  1. Monitor the campus cameras when needed to assist building administration with investigating incidents.
  1. May facilitate student and/or parent meetings to address driving/parking violations accidents or other concerns.
  1. Direct visitors and ensure they have registered in the main office escort unauthorized persons off campus. Direct vehicles and monitor parking areas before during after school.
  1. Lock/unlock campus gates; monitor bus arrivals and departures to ensure student safety; keep the bus zone clear before and after school; direct parent vehicles to appropriate pick-up/drop-off locations.
  1. Serve as liaison for neighboring homes and businesses; support building administrators with handling complaints concerning student behavior.
  1. Work cooperatively with building administrators other school staff and NSD District Safety and Security Staff or designees concerning student behavior.
  1. Direct emergency aid vehicles to areas of need and assist drivers entering school grounds during drills lockdowns and or other emergencies.
  1. Attend required meetings with NSD Safety and Security. Complete required training relevant to the position.
  1. Participate on the Emergency Preparedness team; administer first aid if/when needed until medical help arrives; assist administrators during emergency drills during the school year.
  1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the building Principal and/or Administrator

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a school setting. May experience frequent task interruptions; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; work with students with diverse needs and cultural backgrounds. May assist with distraught individuals including staff and students. Position requires standing or walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally may be asked to work beyond normal hours to supervise parking areas during special events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent. Prior successful experience working with secondary school-age students is desirable. Previous security work preferred. De-escalation training first aid

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Requires firmness punctuality tact good judgment and the ability to resolve conflicts. Requires effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to manage student behavior consistent with District and school discipline policies and procedures. Ability to interact effectively with high school age students in a warm confident manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the public. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and enjoy interacting with students. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to operate computers and learn specific software applications. Ability to operate communications equipment in a professional manner.

Licenses/Special Requirements

CPI Training for security and CPR and First Aid certifications. Training will be provided by the school district.

SALARYSalary is based upon the current2024-25 ESP Salary Schedule Salary(Level II) until the 2025-26 salary schedule is released; placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt.

Work Year:8.0 hours per day192 days per year.

Benefits:Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement packagefor eligible positions. Generally you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31).
