POSITION SUMMARY

The Rehabilitation Assistant works as a support to the School Based Rehabilitation Services program in carrying out assigned tasks. All duties related to the provision of client care are assigned and under the supervision of the program therapists. This position will primarily be based in Ottawa but may require occasional travel to support therapists in the Renfrew County area and/or Eastern Counties area depending on client needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing individual treatment programs to promote fine motor sensory integration independent daily living safety & accessibility lifts & transfers equipment needs and exercise programs within a school setting(s) and/or home setting as assigned by the program therapists.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of individual and group treatment programs or protocols developed with the Occupational Therapist (OT) and/or Physiotherapist (PT)

  • Conducts informal screening of students needs and discusses with supervising therapist.

  • Assist in the preparation and organization of materials to support the implementation of therapy programs as well as in the accurate charting of records and the writing of progress notes.

  • Work within an interdisciplinary team.

  • Liaise and communicate with schools other team members and families regarding any aspect of the clients status or service with the consent of the supervising therapist.

  • Maintain an inventory of assessments resource materials and equipment.

  • Perform cleaning checks and maintenance of equipment.

  • Review maintain and order selected supplies used on a regular basis by the program.

  • Maintain safety and universal precautions.

  • Attend discipline and program based meetings as required.

  • Participates in education and improvement activities.

  • Follows standards of practice regarding safe application of protocols and treatment plans for clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from a post-secondary Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) and Physiotherapy

  • Assistant (PTA) Program (Essential)

  • Minimum two (2) years recent related work experience with children who have physical and/or

  • developmental disabilities with associated behavioural and learning difficulties. (Essential)

  • Demonstrate flexibility in working within various clinical settings and with various therapists

  • supervising work. (Essential)

  • Excellent verbal communication skills as they relate to children youth families and other team members. (Essential)

  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to a frequently changing schedule. (Essential)

  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment. (Essential)

  • Good computer skills (Essential)

  • Valid Ontario drivers license and access to a vehicle is required. (Essential)

  • Police reference check for the vulnerable sector. (Essential)

  • Current CPR Level C Certification (Preferred)

  • Bilingualism (French and English) (Essential)

DESCRIPTION DU POSTE

Lassistante ou lassistant en radaptation agit titre de soutien au programme des Services de radaptation en milieu scolaire dans laccomplissement des tches assignes. Les thrapeutes de programme assignent et supervisent toutes les fonctions lies la prestation de soins aux clients. Ce poste sera principalement bas Ottawa mais pourra ncessiter des dplacements occasionnels pour soutenir les thrapeutes dans la rgion du comt de Renfrew et/ou les comts de lEst en fonction des besoins des clients.
